Top Five Nintendo Wii Virtual Console Games of November

Otter
November is a slow month for Virtual Console games for the Nintendo Wii, especially after the great releases in October. Still, there are plenty of overlooked and underappreciated games to choose from. Here are the top five Virtual Console games released in November for the Nintendo Wii.

5. Wrecking Crew
Developer: Nintendo, Publisher: Nintendo, Original System: NES, Original Release Date: 1985, Genre: Action, Puzzle, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 500, ESRB Rating: E
Wrecking Crew is a relative unknown action/puzzle game that starred Mario. The objective of Wrecking Crew is to demolish objects while avoiding enemies attack. In order to do so, Mario traded in his jumping shoes for a huge hammer in the game. Simple yet addicting, Wrecking Crew is one of the best Virtual Console games released this month.

4. DOUBLE DRIBBLE
Developer: Konami, Publisher: Konami, Original System: Sega Genesis, Original Release Date: 1987, Genre: Sports, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 500, ESRB Rating: E
Although it hasn't aged particularly well, DOUBLE DRIBBLE is the most realistic and revolutionary basketball videogame for its time. In fact, modern basketball videogames wouldn't be where it is today without DOUBLE DRIBBLE. Not to mention it is still fun to play it today on the Virtual Console. Sports video gamers owe it to themselves to play this classic game.

3. AXELAY
Developer: Konami, Publisher: Konami, Original System: Super Nintendo, Original Release Date: 1992, Genre: Shooter, Controller Options: Classic and Gamecube, Wii Points: 800, ESRB Rating: E
AXELAY may be yet another shooting game for the Virtual Console but it is also one of the very best. The intense shooter will have you moving from bottom to top in addition to left to right. The action is further intensified with great music. AXELAY is one of the more underrated games on the Virtual Console. Make sure you don't overlook it.

2. Alien Soldier
Developer: Treasure, Publisher: Sega, Original System: Sega Genesis, Original Release Date: 1995 (Japan), Genre: Action, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 900, ESRB Rating: E10+
Alien Soldier is another underrated game. You will have to run and gun your way (a la Contra) through the intense levels. Not to mention that Alien Soldier is developed by Treasure, whose pedigree in action games has been top notch. Alien Soldier wasn't available in America until now via Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. Gamers from all over the world can now experience this hidden gem.

1. Super Mario Bros. 3

Developer: Nintendo, Publisher: Nintendo, Original System: NES, Original Release Date: 1990, Genre: Platformer, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 500, ESRB Rating: E
To celebrate the release of Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo releases the legendary Super Mario Bros. 3 in November for the Virtual Console. With extremely imaginative levels along with super fun gameplay (with some of the most creative power ups ever), Super Mario Bros. 3 is considered by many as the best Mario game, if not the best game period, ever created. It is easily the best game release on the Virtual Console in November.

Other Virtual Console games released in November for the Nintendo Wii:

Power Golf
Developer: Hudson Soft, Publisher: Hudson Soft, Original System: TurboGrafx16, Original Release Date: 1989, Genre: Sports, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 600, ESRB Rating: E10+
Power Golf is a golf game that plays in a top-down perspective. Since Wii owners already have Wii Sports, there is really no reason to buy Power Golf on the Virtual Console.

BLUE'S JOURNEY
Developer: Alpha Denshi, Publisher: D4 Enterprise, Original System: NEOGEO, Original Release Date: 1994, Genre: Platformer, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 900, ESRB Rating: E
BLUE'S JOURNEY is the second platformer release for NEOGEO on the Virtual Console. Your main attack is a leaf in which you can use it to flip your enemies over. Although it may not be the best platformer, it is a very solid one.

Ecco Jr.
Developer: SEGA, Publisher: SEGA, Original System: Sega Genesis, Original Release Date: 1995, Genre: Adventure, Controller Options: Classic and Gamecube, Wii Points: 800, ESRB Rating: E
Ecco Jr. is the kid brother game from the Ecco the Dolphin series where you have to guide Ecco across several water levels. Unlike its difficult prequels, Ecco Jr. leans towards the easy side. 800 Wii Points is too steep, however, considering that Ecco Jr. (along with over 30 other Sega Genesis classics) is included in Sega Genesis Collection for the Playstation 2 and PSP.

Sonic 3D Blast
Developer: SEGA and Traveller's Tales, Publisher: SEGA, Original System: Sega Genesis, Original Release Date: 1996, Genre: Platformer, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 800, ESRB Rating: E
Sonic and 3D is not a good mix and Sonic 3D Blast proves it. Sonic 3D Blast has worse controls and is slower than the 2D Sonic games. Plus, the game has a weird isometric camera angle. Avoid this Sonic game like you would avoid other 3D Sonic games.

Super Air Zonk
Developer: Red Company, Publisher: HUDSON SOFT, Original System: TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM, Original Release Date: 1993, Genre: Shooter, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 800, ESRB Rating: E
Super Air Zonk is yet another shooter for the TurboGrafx16. With the exception to the music, the original Air Zonk, which is already released on the Virtual Console, is superior.

Vegas Stakes
Developer: Hal Laboratory, Publisher: Nintendo, Original System: Super Nintendo, Original Release Date: 1993, Genre: Simulation, Controller Options: Classic and Gamecube, Wii Points: 800, ESRB Rating: E
Vegas Stakes is a casino-style game that composes of five mini-games: blackjacks, crabs, poker, roulette and slots. In addition, Vegas Stakes also includes RPG-elements and four-player multiplayer. A solid package but it's not worth the 800 Wii Points needed to download it on the Virtual Console.

Volleyball
Developer: Nintendo, Publisher: Nintendo, Original System: NES, Original Release Date: 1987, Genre: Sports, Controller Options: Classic, Gamecube and Wii Remote, Wii Points: 500, ESRB Rating: E
Volleyball is another one of those archaic sports game on the Virtual Console. Although few, there are much better volleyball games out there. Skip this one as itjust doesn't hold up to the test of time.
