Reason it is not Fun to be a Yankees Fan #1: The Bleacher Creatures. They'll sing nasty songs to just about anyone, including teens. Click here if you don't believe me. They may think they are in a bar, but instead they are disgracing America's past time. What is even more disgraceful is not the lack of Yankee Stadium security to control them, but that they have now become a celebratory part of Yankee tradition.
Reason it is not Fun to be a Yankees Fan #2: Rooting for God. Listening to a fan say they are rooting for the Yankees is like hearing someone say they are rooting for God. The Yankees can never be the underdog again because they simply outspend everyone. Some fans say that money does not guarantee winning because the Yankees have failed with a big budget in the past. However, simply because the team does not always succeed in buying a title, does not mean we should all be happy for them when they finally do. For any post-1996 fans, ask older die-hard Yankees fans if 1996 can compare with 2009.
Reason it is not Fun to be a Yankees Fan #3: A-Rod. Alex Rodriguez took his no championships and major post season flops to the free agent market in 2007. He then came crawling back when no one showed interest. Somehow, the result was yet another record deal for his giant ego.
If anyone on the Yankees should have an ego, it should be Derek Jeter who has more hardware than Home Depot and is a beloved icon. Yet, when is the last time Jeter upstaged the World Series to announce he is beginning his pursuit for more money? Granted A-Rod got a ring in 2009, eventually even Yogi Berra could make sense if you let him talk enough. Just for fun, here is a look at A-Rod's past resume.
Reason it is not Fun to be a Yankees Fan #4: Hank and Hal Steinbrenner. The two have no loyalties to the Yankees past or their traditions. Joe Torre was thrown out like an old disgraced money clip that could no longer hold their new paychecks. Hank and Hal Steinbrenner were handed a team which makes their tough-as-heck attitude fall flat. They simply do not come off as George Steinbrenner no matter how much time they spent rehearsing their routines in front of their country club's mirrors.
Reason it is not Fun to be a Yankees Fan #5: Loyalty. Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon were champions and were thrown out like stale peanuts. Yes, one was very greedy with his demands. Still, Hideki Matsui left because he was told to wait and see if they can fit him in. In the meanwhile, he was supposed to let his market dry up. It shows that the Yankees have little loyalty as they think that their checkbooks can replace anyone. Being a Yankee fan is being a fan of the latest jersey only. If you want to see what it is like to be a returning Yankee, then click here or here.
I am not knocking the Yankees, but simply stating five reasons why being a Yankee fan can be unsatisfying. An honorable mention is the ridiculous pricing at the new Yankee Stadium. I hear Donald Trump filed for chapter 11 after buying a hot dog there. Still, that is not to say I do not watch Yankee games, as I watch all of the baseball teams. In fact, I got some Yankee memorabilia in my wallet. They are currently in increments of ones, fives, tens and twenties.

Thanks for the article
jealousy is a unpleasant thing Bosch. The Yankees have the biggest fan base outside their own city, across the country and over seas. Anyone can be a Yankees fan (or any other fan) for any reasons. It is very classless of you to try to convince people to not be Yankees fan. Do they really pay to to write this trash? do you go around and tell people they're wrong for believing in God? so why is rooting for God bad? do you root for Satan?
You're mother should be ashamed of you.
Dont hate the player, Every single fan of every other pro team, wishes their team had an ownership like the steinbrenner family. A family that cares about only one thing and it is not the almighty dollar. They care about winning. Thats the bottom line. The wilpons should get a clue and take a page out of the Steinbrenner playbook. Winning solves all problems..
Yeah, no loyalty, right? We all know that Gary Sheffield was such a beloved Yankee legend who went out in style by denouncing the organization and it's manager and Captain! I can't believe he didn't receive a standing ovation upon his return!
I am proud to say that I am not on the Yankee bandwagon. I would not want to be associated with a group of fans that can claim the bleacher creatures as part of their fandom.
Going for 28.
Yankees spent 10 mil less in 2010 so far. Red Sox spent 60 mil more so far. Who is outspending who now a days?
Number 28 coming soon!!! bahahahaaa
There's no danger of me becoming a Yankees fan anytime soon. Interesting article!
I love when the haters try and bring the Yankees down... The Yankees have no need for bandwagon fans, or morons who write stupid blog posts.
Nicely written and well-thought out, Peter. Great job!
