Sports movies are the basis for learning some great life lessons. Kids can see that the under dog can win. They watch as hard work, determination, and practice can make dreams come true. These movies emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and being a team player. There are so many movies out there with absolutely no redeeming qualities that sometimes kids forget about what's right and what's wrong. When the main character is faced with a moral decision and has to live with the consequences, it makes kids think twice.

Sports movies are fun. They are action packed and keep your attention. We all enjoy the suspense of waiting until the last minute or second to see who's going to win the game. The victory always leaves you feeling good. We love to see the kid beat the odds and win. My family really enjoys watching these movies . We've seen them so many times that we know them by heart. These are some of our top picks.

1. The Sandlot was hands down our pick for first place. We think it may even be the best kid's baseball movie ever made. It's full of action, humor, friendship and baseball. It's the story of a new kid . He moves into a neighborhood where all the boys get together and play baseball every day. He doesn't fit in , because he doesn,t know anything about baseball. One of the boys decides to teach him. Then the rest of the kids begin to accept him too. The rest of the movie is based on the fun they have, and the troubles they run into. This movie is great fun to watch with or without your kids.

2. The Mighty Ducks is a funny movie about a group of misfit kids that like to play hockey. They love the game, but they're not very good at it. None of their coaches can go the distance with them. Finally, they end up with a coach who needs them as much as they need him. The team's gradual transformation is both comical and inspiring. It is definitely a feel good movie with a happy ending.

3. The Bad News Bears is an unforgettable baseball movie. It is about a bunch of delinquent kids who want to play baseball, but don't have what it takes. The other teams ridicule them, the parents laugh at them and the coaches can't stand them. They get a new coach who's a drunken pool cleaner and things get even worse. Then they decide they want to be good and they want to win and everything starts to change. It's a very funny movie. It really shows what can happen when you practice, work hard and play as a team.

4. The Game Plan is a fairly new movie. We have watched it several times and found it fun and entertaining. It is the story of an egotistical famous football star who finds out that he has a daughter. He has to rearrange his life and his priorities and become an instant father. He makes mistakes and learns from them. In the end he finds out what is truly important to him. It's a little bit of a tear jerker.

5. Glory Road is based on the integration of "Blacks " and " Whites" on a basketball team. The coach has limited time and resources and has to put together a winning team . He picks more Blacks than Whites for the team and has to take a lot of flack for it. The story of the team pulling together, standing up for each other and learning to be the best is a memorable story that can't easily be forgotten. Many kids today don't realize what it meant to be colored in the 1960's and all of the privileges they were deprived of. Overcoming the hatred and helping one another was an enormous step for these people at this time.

I hope your family enjoys these movies as much as mine does.
