Top Five Television Shows Premiering in January

David Osmond Makes it to Hollywood on American Idol and Sings with David Archuleta at Family Christmas Concert

Aly Adair
Some of our favorite television shows are premiering in January and a couple of new television shows promise to be spectacular television hits in 2009. David Osmond, Donnie and Marie's nephew, made it to Hollywood on Season 8 of American Idol. David and Doug Osmond, sons of Alan Osmond, both auditioned for American Idol. Simon Cowell said he loved Salt Lake City and actually liked David Osmond.

In December 2008, the Osmonds performed their annual Family Christmas Concert and invited 2008 American Idol runner up, David Archuleta, to sing with them. Click here for videos and photos of the Archie Angel moment with David Archuleta and the Osmonds singing Oh Holy Night and Amazing Grace. Visit the official Osmond Family Blog for more photos and video of David Archuleta and The Osmond Family performances. Good luck to David Osmond in his quest to become the next American Idol!

Here is my list of the top five television premieres for January 2009:

American Idol

Season 8 Premiere January 13 and 14

Tuesday and Wednesday at 8/7c on FOX

American Idol held auditions in Salt Lake City, Utah for Season 8 and an Osmond family singer made the final cut. Of course, everyone wants to see the new American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi. I can't wait for my favorite reality TV show to return in January.

The Bachelor

Premieres Monday January 5 at 8/7c on ABC

Jason Mesnick, 32, and his 3-year old son, Ty will be the team of Bachelors looking for true love in 2009. Reality TV lovers watched as DeAnna Pappas broke Jason's heart in 2008 when she rejected Jason who fell in love with DeAnna on The Bachelorette. Now, Jason gets to meet 25 beautiful women, but can any of them make a good mother? We'll see.

LEVERAGE

Starring Academy Award Winner Timothy Hutton

Tuesdays at 10/9c on TNT

Timothy Hutton plays an insurance investigator in a modern-day Robin Hood action/drama show. LEVERAGE follows thieves and hackers who get even with greedy wealthy people victimizing others. Dean Devlin (Independence Day) is executive producer of LEVERAGE.

Timothy Hutton is one of my favorite actors who starred in Ordinary People, The Falcon and the Snowman, French Kiss, Taps, The General's Daughter, and The Killing Room among others. In 1981, Hutton won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Ordinary People.

SuperStars of Dance

Premieres Sunday January 4 at 9/8c on NBC

Regular shows are scheduled for Mondays 8/7c on NBC

Eight countries will participate in 32 performances combining artistic dance, rock concert and sports in what promises to be the greatest "breathtaking" international dance competition ever produced for television. SuperStars of Dance is produced by American Idol producers Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller. Michael Flatley from Lords Of The Dance will be the host of the series.

Lost

Premieres Wednesday January 21 at 8/7c on ABC

Another season of Lost will keep us on the edge of our Lazy Boys. The drop-dead gorgeous Sawyer will be back and he wants to nickname you. Visit the official ABC site of Lost to try your chance on Sawyer's Nickname Generator.

The videos showing David Osmond are so cool, Aly! Thanks for sharing those as well as the other top picks on your list of television shows. I think David Osmond has a lovely voice, be interesting to see how he does. The publicity would certainly be something for American Idol as it goes through the challenges of maintaining viewer interest, season after season.
