Sandpoint is a small town nestled in the Idaho panhandle. But, for a small town there are still a lot of attractions that make Sandpoint worth the visit. No matter what season it is, Sandpoint is chalk full of activities aside from camping, boating, fishing, and all that fun stuff. Listed below are my top five things to do in Sandpoint, Idaho.
1. Schweitzer Mountain Resort: Schweitzer Mountain Resort has year round activities and is one of my favorite places to go. In the winter there is skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and you can even go on snowmobile rides. For summer activities they have everything from hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, lift rides, and events. The newest fun thing they have is mining for gems at the Cranky Jennings Mining Co.
2. Lake Pend Oreille Cruises: You just can't visit Sandpoint without going out on the lake. If you want an incredibly enjoyable experience on the water, then going on a cruise is a great choice. Lake Pend Oreille Cruises has a schedule of their specialty cruises and also host a daily cruise.
3. Silverwood Theme Park: Silverwood Theme Park is about a half hour drive out of Sandpoint, but it is well worth it if you're in the area. Silverwood has a water park, rides, games, an air show, magic shows, and a train ride that goes around the entire park. This theme park has so much fun stuff to offer. If you don't have enough time for a day trip to Silverwood there is a convenient campground directly across the highway and a variety of hotels in the area.
4. Western Pleasure Guest Ranch: Western Pleasure Guest Ranch has both summer and winter activities. In the winter you can go on a sleigh ride through the snow covered terrain or take the kids sledding. In the summer you can try your hand at horseback riding or maybe go out on the water in a canoe. Western Pleasure Guest Ranch has a few different specialty packages to choose from, including all inclusive packages.
5. The International Selkirk Loop: The International Selkirk Loop is one of the best attractions in the area and all it will cost you is gas money. The International Selkirk loop is a 280-mile drive which circles the Selkirk Mountains in eastern Washington, northern Idaho and southeastern British Columbia. This is a wonderful experience for both children and adults, just don't forget to bring your camera.
