Top Five Things to See and Do in Valley, Alabama

Logan McCall
With a population of approximately 10,000 citizens, the city of Valley is considerably smaller that some of the other cities located in Alabama. However, travelers who are passing through Valley will find a number of interesting things to see and do that makes this a great little city to explore. Here are five things to see and do in Valley, Alabama that will give you an idea of what Valley has to offer.

Annual Festivals and Events

Like many small cities and towns in the region, Valley hosts a number of fun festivals and other events that encourage locals and tourists alike to enjoy some great food and entertainment. For example, the Evan Mason Free Sandwich Day in late June never fails to attract a crowd as hundreds of tasty tomato sandwiches are given away to celebrate the first summer harvest. Valley's Day on the River Festival is the city's oldest annual festival. This river festival is a great place to enjoy the late spring weather while taking in some local music, terrific food and a variety of fun events and activities. The city also has a Fall Festival in late October that consists of a costume contest, craft booths, festival-style foods, pony rides and a haunted House.

Langdale Theater

The historic Langdale Theater has stood in Valley since it was built on the site of an old public school in 1937. This stately brick building stands atop one of the highest hills in town and is worth visiting just to admire its architecture. In terms of acoustics, the Langdale Theater is easily one of top community theater halls in the state. Although the building was originally erected as a movie theater, it now welcomes musical performances from throughout the country. From country and pop to jazz and classical, an evening at the Langdale Theater is guaranteed to offer a little something for everyone.

Southern Cuisine

No matter how little time you may have to explore Valley before you need to get back on the road, you definitely do not want to miss out on Valley's take on southern cuisine. There are two great southern-style restaurants in Valley: David's Bar-B-Que and Sue's Chick. The cooks at David's Bar-B-Que have mastered the fine art of slow cooked BBQ and offer an all-you-can-eat catfish feast every Friday, while Sue's Chick specialize in down-home cooking dishes like lip-smacking fried chicken and country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy.
