Top Five Travel Supplies for Traveling with Babies

Sheri Fresonke Harper
Most parents would agree on three basic needs for traveling with babies--a healthy baby, a pack mule, and a dozen extra hands. Oh, and a sense of humor. This might seem impossible to accomplish, especially since travel often means you're carrying quite the load already. Babies just make the entire trip more complicated. Parents who have ever traveled with a sick child will tell you they'd rather fight off werewolves or hand feed sharks than do so ever again. One thing to consider if you're traveling with a baby is buying tickets where you don't pay extra to change your travel dates in case baby becomes ill. Here's my answer on how to get extra hands and a pack mule with ease:

#1 Travel Supply for Traveling with Babies-Large Carryon Bag

Get a large carryon bag with wheels to hold as many supplies as possible. A carryon bag with wheels offers you another hand and eases the stress on your back. Place inside this bag, a small shoulder bag that can fit beneath your seat during the flight with the absolute essential happy baby supplies you can think of, which is my next item along with the basic wetware which is the following item.

#2 Travel Supply for Traveling with Babies-Essential Happy Baby Supplies

Take a hand-sized soft toy to play games. Take snacks-extra bottles of milk, cookies or graham crackers, cereal and raisins. Take a pacifier. Take plastic keys or other easy to grip item that is colorful and has many shapes. Take baby aspirin in case the worst happens. Bring earplugs for yourself to tone down screams and complaints from fellow passengers.

#3 Travel Supply for Traveling with Babies-Basic Wetware

This is your supply of diapers, an extra change of clothing in case of real messes, toilettes in self-sealed containers (these are smaller to pack than the pull out of the canister kind), diaper rash ointment, bibs. You might want to have a empty plastic bag or two to hold wet or smelly items for when you don't have a garbage can to dump them in directly.

#4 Travel Supply for Traveling with Babies--Baby Sling

This supply is actual for the parent so that baby can ride on your back or belly and you can travel hands free. Baby slings let you be closer with your baby and provides the comforting warmth that helps to reassure babies surrounded by strangers.

#5 Travel Supply for Traveling with Babies-Computer or DVD Player and DVDs

One life saver for parents now is the ability to bring child oriented movies, music and shows along with you and play them on your laptop or portable DVD player. Retaining a baby's interest can be tough so bring a variety DVD.

OMG, I'm so tired. First I thought you said "crayon bag" and I thought, "When my son was little I always used to carry crayons in my bag." But a crayon bag with wheels? G'night, everybody.
