Top Five Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Mama's Boy

Is Your Guy a Mama's Boy? I Have Gift Suggestions for You!

Jill Davidson
Being a Mama's Boy isn't necessarily a bad thing. A wise woman will get to know her partner's mother, and take note of how well he treats the woman who raised him. We should expect him to treat her with love and respect, and to consider her feelings. To expect otherwise reflects our own insecurity. Unfortunately, some men are so wrapped around Mama's pinky that they don't ever break that little-boy bond with her, and we end up in a competition with her for his affections. Whether his good qualities outweigh a lifetime of playing second fiddle is something that only we can decide for ourselves.

So if you have one of these Mama's Boys for a Valentine this season (if you're not sure, read this), here are my gift suggestions that might get the message across that you think your man is a bit too attached to his mother. He might get the message, but don't count on it. They're often in denial.

5. A Valentine's Day gift certificate to a romantic restaurant. This one is a test. He'd better take you, no Mama along to chaperone! If he takes Mama while you sit home and watch TV reruns, you are in the wrong relationship. If you let him talk you into taking both of you, well, I hope you like his mother because you'll be seeing a lot of her.

4. Two pair of matching pajamas, one in his size, and one in Mama's. Be sure to get a gift receipt, though, because whatever color or style you choose, Mama is going to hate them.

3. Tie a lovely red Valentine bow around a pair of scissors and attach a gift tag that reads "To be used for cutting apron strings."

2. Give him a ½" dowel rod three feet long to replace the spine he is missing.

And for die-hard Mama's Boys, my number one Valentine's Day gift suggestion is:

1. An accent light to spotlight the bust of her he has on a pedestal in his living room. And just be thankful he doesn't keep it in the bedroom.

So funny. My husband's brother is a real mama's boy. He even chose his mother over his wife and now they're divorced. Now my Euri is a mama's boy but he's a dog so it's OK. ;-)
