Top Five Video Games that Need to be Turned into Movies

Matt Remley
Over the past 20 or so years, many hit video game franchises have been turned into major box office films. This long list includes films like Super Mario Brothers, Resident Evil, and even Mortal Kombat, all of which seem to have found their way into the movie collection of fans. Sadly, most of these video game film adaptations turn out to be failures in the eyes of many. Nevertheless, there is a select few video games that I believe should be turned into films. Of course these things are open to opinion, but it's fun to express ones opinion on this sort of matter. Let's take a good look at the top five video games that should be turned into movies, tell me what you think.

Five- Ninja Gaiden

Who doesn't want to see a film about this series? Surprsingly enough, I believe that Ninja Gaiden would make a great action film. Think of a way better version of The Last Samurai with better actors and a better story. Sure it would probably cost a ton of money to make, and the game doesn't sell that great, but if a film studio was willing to take a risk on this many fans would be jumping for joy.

Four- Devil May Cry

Listed in the stalled film productions on Wikipedia, Devil May Cry would surely be a great live action movie if done correctly. One could wonder all day about what actor would play Devil May Cry's main hero Dante, or how they would pull off the look of all the boss monsters in the game. It's too bad this film has been stalled in developement hell, it could have turned out a huge hit.

Three- Metal Gear Solid

Yes, this game has a low budget film out there, but many would love to see an actual Hollywood budget film version of Metal Gear Solid created. Among stealth genre video games, this has to be the best. Metal Gear Solid is nothing short of a masterpiece in all regards. Even the sound track from Metal Gear Solid still gives people the chills, and makes them wish they could be just like Snake, the main character of the game series.

Two- Grand Theft Auto

If you have been a gamer the past few years, then surely you know all about Grand Theft Auto. This game has millions of fans world wide, and beats records everytime a new game is released. A movie may be hard to pull off and do right, but many wish that a studio would go ahead and try to make a film either way.

Sadly, whether we like it not there will never be a Grand Theft Auto movie. The reason for that is because when RockStar's Grand Theft Auto became famous, they promised that there would never be an attempt to make a movie based on the game because there is in fact a movie with the same name filmed in 1977. Sorry Grand Theft Auto fans, blame Ron Howard for this one, he wrote, directed, and stared in that film.

One- The Legend of Zelda

Many of you may be surprised by this choice, however Zelda has been around for much longer then any of the above video game franchises. That being said, Zelda would also be much harder to make into a film then anything else on this list. The Legend of Zelda has been turned into a cartoon, and a few low budget films. If this were turned into a film, Nintendo fan boys all over the world would have the happiest day of their life.

Most of the franchises on this list have been put on Wikipedia's developement hell video game film production list. Although these video games have very slim chances of being turned into movies, video game fans all over the world continue to dream of a world where Metal Gear Solid is turned into a movie, and really bad video game film adaptations never make it to the silver screen.
