1. REGIFTING- While credit can be given for resourcefulness, it in no way makes up for the complete and utter lack of respect the receiver of your gift will feel once they find out what you did.
Ultimate offense? Using a Valentines day gift from an admirer. Some people make the mistake of leaving the old tags on the gift >.< OUCH!
2. SELFISH GIFTING- Some people don't even realize they commit this gift giving crime. If you are giving a gift that you know you will enjoy more than the person who is receiving it, chances are, it's not for them, it's for YOU because you'll end up using it.
While your intentions may be in the right place, many people will just perceive it as selfish and feel that you are not in tune with their needs.
Ultimate offense? Buying concert tickets/season sports tickets for the two of you to a place you know your Valentine hates and you know your going to end up using them with someone else anyway.
3. PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTIONS- This one is a bit tricky. Generally, if you just met this person this is definitely a bad idea for a gift. Play it safe, and if your lost use one of the suggestions I provide at the bottom of this article.
Gifts that fall under this category are Self-help books, Weight loss plans/Gym Memberships or anything else that may suggest you think your Valentine needs to work on. This may be fine for people who are in a long term relationship with their Valentine, or if the person asked for the gift. The thing is, while I'm all for self-improvement, these aren't really 'Valentines' day gifts. If the matter is so important to you why wait until Valentines day to bring it up, give the book/scale etc on a random day.
I'm not trying to tell you not to be honest with your partner, I'm just saying, 'There's a time and a place for everything'.
Ultimate offense? Signing your Valentine up for a Weight loss plan program after watching her cry on the scale. It's obviously a sensitive issue!
4. STD- I don't even think I need to explain this one. There is no ultimate on this one, this is THE ultimate
5. GETTING DUMPED- Take it from someone who was dumped the day before Valentines Day, it's not fun... especially when it's done by his ex-girlfriend and you show up the next day with balloons and chocolates just hoping she lied and he wasn't the coward she made him out to be.... *sigh* high school memories.
But seriously, chances are you and your Valentine hadn't been enjoying each others company for awhile, so either wait a couple days before or a couple days after. Either way, even if the person says they don't celebrate Valentines day, nothing stings more than being reminded on the day of 'love', that your not in it.
Ultimate Offense? Getting caught cheating on your Valentine on Valentines day.
So it's safe to say that if you get caught cheating on your Valentine after giving them a gift you just received from your mistress, the gift being a box of peanut truffles, even though your Valentine is allergic to peanuts, with your herpes infested spit on some of the chocolates that you've already chewed... chances are you just might be the worst Valentine ever known to man.
SO WANT TO PLAY IT SAFE?
If it's a Valentine you just met, a CD/iTunes Giftcard (With mention of what song it's intended for) to their currently favorite new band/artist should be fine. The song/artist doesn't have to be romantic.
If it's a Valentine who is your longtime partner or spouse, usually, a special dinner (by the person who doesn't normally cook-don't forget to do the dishes!) and flowers/champagne should do the trick!
