Top Five New Year's Eve Movies

Robin Raven
New Year's Eve movies are those movies that celebrate the holiday itself within them, and there are also New Year's Eve movies that represent themes that many of us think about during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day celebration, such as the passing of time and new beginnings. This list below represents a combination of both.

1) "It's a Wonderful Life." Yes, this film is know for Christmas, but the infamous singing of "Auld Lang Syne," the unofficial theme of New Year's Eve, makes it very timely. So does the spirit of hope and humanity. It's a great film to start a movie marathon with, as viewing energy should be way up at its energetic end.

2) "The Fabulous Baker Boys." This is a movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Beau Bridges and Jeff Bridges. It's a classic romance with an edge, and a poignant part of the movie occurs during an unforgettable New Year's Eve. It just might inspire you to create some holiday magic and adventure in your own life.

3) "Somewhere in Time." This is a classic movie of the early 1980s. "Somewhere in Time" stars Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour in a beautiful love story that transcends place and time. Traveling through time is no true obstacle when it comes to finding a true love for the star-crossed lovers at the heart of the film. It's become a cult classic, with fans gathering at the island where the film was shot every year for viewings. It's perfect for the new year as its theme of time and transcending can put a lot of things in perspective.

4) "Bridget Jones's Diary." Bridget Jones is great company for any New Year's Eve. She'll have you laughing from the start. She makes a New Year's resolution to start keeping a journal, and her entire life changes. It can inspire you to make changes in your life, and perhaps even start a diary of your own. If nothing else, it will provide plenty of laughs to liven up the mood for New Year's Eve.

5) "When Harry Met Sally." This movie is a romance starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. It asks if a man and woman can ever be friends without the romance setting in. It doesn't provide answers beyond the adorable romance between the main characters. Perhaps the highlight of the entire movie is its enchanting New Year's Eve scene.
