Top Flat-Bed Scanners Under $100

Ann Mapleridge
I recently started working for a company overseas. Before I could begin work the company needed me to send them a set of hiring documents. International phone calls can be quiet expensive, so rather than fax the documents to the company I instead printed them out at home, filled them out, and then scanned the documents and emailed them to the company. Since I do not own a fax machine, scanning the documents and emailing them rather than taking them to a copy shop to fax them.

In addition to scanning documents to email and archive on your computer scanner as can be great for preserving photos. With a scanner you can take paper photographs and turn them into digitals in your computer. Scanner photos can be enhanced in photo editing programs liked photohsop, or emailed to friends and family.

A scanner is a great thing to have on hand in your home. Getting a great scanner doesn't have to cost a lot of money. Here are some of the best scanners on the market today for under $100.

Hewlett-Packard Flatbed Scanner
4370

This flatbed scanner made by Hewlett Packard typically sells for around $100 and will allow you to scan your documents and photos with ease. One fun feature of this particular scanner is that its adjustable lid allows you to scan 3-D objects. This scanner scans items up to 8.5" x 11" at a maximum resolution of 3600 x 7200 dpi. The scanner comes with some basic software that will allow you to do some basic fixes to your scanner photos like removing red-eye and scratch marks from older photos. The scanner will work with both PC and Mac and connects to both using USB 2.0.

Canon CanoScan Flat Bed Scanner
LiDE 60

This Canon scanner will work with both PC and Mac and scans documents and photos with up to a 1200 x 2400dpi resolution. The scanner comes with a good deal of software to help you effectively edit your documents and photos and email them quickly to friends or co-workers once they are scanned. One thing I personally really like about this scanner is that it uses USB to both power the scanner and connect to your computer. Powering the scanner through USB reduces the amount of cable clutter you have in your computer area and eases the scanner set up. This scanner by Canon typically sells for around $80.

Epson Flatbed Scanner
3490

This flatbed scanner by Epson will work with both PC and Mac and scans documents and photos at a 3200 x 6400 dpi maximum resolution. One great feature of this particular scanner is that it made specifically to scan 25mm slides and film. The scanner comes with a special transparency unit that assists with scanning slides and film into your computer. The scanner also comes with a good deal of basic editing and sharing software so you can easily make minor fixes to your photographs and email them to friends or family.
