Began in 1853, it is the nation's 4th largest University and Florida's largest. You may like their football team, 'The Gators', but this school has staff that has been awarded from Fields Medal to Pulitzers and Smithsonian Institution's Conservation Award. Also home to 16 colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. This school is most famous for it's Football Team. UF offers Doctoral, Engineering, Master's, and Specialist's Degree Programs. Their dorm houses single students and offers plenty of campus activities. The Arts; Ballet to the Orchestra, Athletics; Weightlifting to Archery, and Aquatics Programs. This campus is located just 30 minutes from the Gainesville Airport, 2.5 hours from Tampa, Tallahassee, Orlando, and Jacksonville Airports. There are lots of Restaurants, Movies, Bars/Clubs, Malls, and other entertainment for all who attend this University.
Florida State University - FSU - Tallahassee
This University is a Research University. They also are the home of 16 Colleges and 7 Graduate Programs. In 2007, this University was asked to host National Nuclear Physics Summer School. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, The U.S. Department of Energy, and The National Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington. FSU gets top rankings in Nuclear Physics, and Analytical Chemistry. "Florida State University is recognized by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as engaged in very high research activity, the highest status accorded to a doctoral-granting university." This University is also famous for it's Football Team. It offers Master's, Special, Doctoral, Law, Medicine, Joint, Degrees and Certificate Programs. This Campus is located 6.84 miles from the Tallahassee Airport. It offers childcare and you can have up to two roommates. Tallahassee has plenty of things to do for anyone.
Florida Agricultural & Mechanical ( A & M ) University - FAMU - Tallahassee
This University was founded in 1887 and is a historical black university. It started with fifteen students and two instructors. They also have their own Radio Station (WANM 90.5), using Windows Media Player. This University is most famous for its Football Team and their Marching Band. "The FAMU Marching "100" Band, under the direction of Dr. William P. Foster, was invited by the French government to participate in the Bastille Day Parade as the official representation from the United States. This event was held in celebration of the Bicentennial of the French Revolution. The Marching "100" continues to perfect its legacy of excellence, which has resulted in it being labeled as the "Best Marching Band in the Nation" by Sports Illustrated (August, 1992). The band received national recognition in January 1993, when it performed in the 52nd Inauguration Parade in Washington D.C. by invitation of President-Elect William "Bill" Clinton." FAMU offers a BS in Education, Science, Home Economics, Agriculture, and Mechanical Arts. All first time freshmen students and/or students with less than 12 semester credit hours residing more than 35 miles away are required to live on campus with only a few exceptions. You will have at least one roommate and you would find out when you apply. There is a limited number of family housing, first come first served. Webmaster needs help. University of Central Florida - UCF - Orlando
UCF opened in 1968, and is a Research University. They have 95 Baccalaureate Programs, 97 Master¡¦s Programs, 3 Specialist, and 28 Doctoral Programs. The prestigious National Science Foundation Award was given to a record number, eight researchers at this University this year. UCF is famous for its Football team as well as High Technology. This University is only 13 miles from downtown where you can go to everything your heart desires. It is also 21.30 miles from the Orlando Airport. This one, like other Universities, you can live on or off campus.
University of Miami - UM -Coral Gables
This University is sought after from many students from many states. It is one of the Nations Leading Research Universities and is home to the famous Canes. They are also known for their Medical School; many programs in the Medical School to be more precise. UM not only has a campus' dining hall, it has other facilities on premises also. For instance, it has a Java Juice and a Wendy's. It also has Starbucks and Subway. There are several others to choose from, you won't go hungry or thirsty here. So, if you don't have a car, don't worry- it's all here for you. There is so much to see around this University. You can go to the Keys, or to the famous South Beach. Maybe you want to go to Coconut Grove or to Museums and famous Night Clubs. With the average 75-80 degree temperatures, you can't go wrong at this University. While on campus, you can enjoy many things from Concerts to Walking Trails. It is also less than 8 miles from the Miami-Dade Airport, and less than 6 miles to I-95.
Florida Atlantic University - FAU -Several Locations
This Teaching University opened in 1964, and has continued to give their students the most intellectual education they could give. FAU is steadily moving to the top of the Research ladder ranging from Biomedicine, and Biotechnology to Ocean Engineering and Coastal Security. There are hundreds of student activities from fraternities and sororities, to pre-professional associations. FAU offers 12 colleges and more than 170 degree programs. They also run one of the Nation's largest Continuing Education Programs known as the Life Long Learning Society. With 7 campuses, I'm sure you'll find one where ever you want to reside. They do offer on campus housing and each campus offers different specialties. Each location is in an area that is surrounded by lots of amenities. This University offers BA degrees in many areas from Accounting to Theater, as well as Certificate Programs.
Florida International University - FIU -Several Locations
This University offers 13 different colleges, and has more than 200 Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral program choices for you. They even have a Phi Beta Kappa Chapter. FIU has only 2 campus' plus an off site center and an academic site. There is Museums with the Universities. The Wolfsonian - FIU Museum, and another to open soon is The Patricia & Philip Frost Art Museum. This is the University that Syesha Mercado (American Idol Contestant, this season) attended. You can live on or off campus and locations are fairly centrally located. There is much to do in Broward County.
Nova Southeastern University - NSU - Several Locations
Since 1971, this University offers Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, Education Specialist, Doctoral, and First Professional Degrees. NSU offers 17 colleges and schools. NSU offers Soccer, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Golf, Cross Country, Track, Cheer leading, Rowing, Tennis, Volleyball, and Online/Distance Learning. There is plenty of housing, on or off campus. Again, Broward County has lots to offer.

Also, community colleges that you can transfer from to one of the Universities is also real good; especially if you're paying for your own education.
