Top Games to Look Forward to in 2009

2008 is not quite over yet, but it has provided gamers everywhere with outstanding titles in every genre and platform. So as this fun-filled year comes to a close, what will 2009 have in store for us?

Here's a list of some of the video games to look forward to next year.

inFamous

From the creators of the Sly Cooper franchise, Sucker Punch Productions will bring this sandbox-style title to the PS3. With a roaming open-world, players choose between being a hero or an anti-hero.

Resident Evil 5

Capcom will bring this installment of the popular Resident Evil survival horror series to the PS3 and Xbox 360. With an engaging environment, various lighting effects, and new types of enemies, the title is looking to be a paramount addition to the series.

StarCraft II

Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, it's a highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 award-winning StarCraft. It was announced to be a trilogy at BlizzCon 2008, with the title followed up later by two expansion packs. Its creators promise the "ultimate competitive real-time strategy game."

Final Fantasy XIII

Role-playing fans are sure to enjoy this title from Square Enix. The game looks promising, with stunning visuals and profound storyline. Expect it out worldwide for the PlayStation 3, along with the Xbox 360 in North America and Europe.

Halo 3: ODST

Formerly named Halo 3: Recon, this standalone expansion takes players once again into the Halo Universe. The role of a UNSC Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, not Master Chief, is assumed during the events leading up to Bungie's blockbuster Halo 3 title.

God of War III

Announced by Sony at E3 2008, this installment to the God of War franchise will come out exclusively for the PS3. The hack and slash action adventure will run at full 1080p HD resolution.

Killzone 2

Developed by Guerilla Games, this hard sci-fi first-person shooter will come out for the PS3. It's the third installment to the Killzone franchise, and is set to be released on February 17, 2009.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Coming out for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and PS3, this survival horror first-person shooter is set to be shipped out in February. As a sequel to F.E.A.R., it will continue a supernatural suspense story that fans adored in the first title.

BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams

The sequel to the hit BioShock is scheduled to be released in 2009. Not much is known about the title for now, but with the success of the franchise's first game, the sequel is destined to be a hit. Expect it out for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Halo Wars

The Halo universe takes on some real-time strategy action with this title from Ensemble Studios. With the plot taking place 20 years before the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first game of the Halo series, it's highly anticipated and expected for release by February.

Diablo III

Blizzard's popular Diablo franchise received a third installment with this title. Eagerly awaited by action role-playing fans, the title will retain a similar feel to earlier games of the series.
