Top Gifts for 6 Year Old Boys

Nicole

If you have a six year old boy on your gift list, here are some ideas to getting that perfect gift. If it's your child, it should be easy getting them something. You know what they like. But if you are getting this for a child that you're just really not that sure what they like, ask their parents or use the list below to help you get that perfect present. There's a lot of possibilities when you're buying a gift for a six year old boy.

Play time!
Boys absolutely love toys! There's so much to choose from. Boys can spend hours a day pretending and using their imagination. Can't you just think back and remember all your toys? Even though I'm a girl, I remembered fighting with my brother because I wanted to play with his Transformers and G.I. Joe action figures. Toys are always a favorite when opening a gift.

Legos, Match Box cars, Bionicles, Tonka Trucks, Action figures, K'nex, Radio controlled car, Walkie-Talkies, Pogs, snowcone makers...walk down the toy aisle, and see what catches your eye.

Use your brain!
People often think of video games as something that rots your brain. I totally disagree. There are game systems out there designed to learn and develop.
Leap Frog's Leap Pad
Leapster Learning system
Board Games
Books
Puzzles
Telescope
Microscope
Magazine subscriptions (Sports Illustrated for Kids, Highlights for Children)

Get active!
Health is very important. So keep those kids active with fun sports stuff! Use these as a starting point, and you'll be sure to please that little guy.
Bike or Scooter (Don't forget the helmet!)
Basketball
Soccer ball
Tennis ball and racket
Baseball, bat, and mitt
Football

Get creative!
Children LOVE to create their own masterpieces! Having art supplies on hand gives kids access to draw, paint, and glue to their heart's content. Even if you may think they already have these things, it's always great to have a back up just in case things run out. And if you are choosing any of these things for a kid with a talent for art, you can be sure they will run out of these things very quickly.
Markers
Colored pencils
Crayons
Paint
Paintbrushes
Scissors
Glue
Construction Paper
Stickers
Popsicle sticks
Coloring books

Get Old School!
Star Wars, Tinkertoys, Lincoln logs...kids still love to play with things like this! Check eBay out for great things from "back in the day".

If you still cannot find anything, or just don't have the time, here are some generic ideas:

First, if the child is not yours, ask the parents what he's into...perhaps sports, a particular cartoon character, or video games (make sure to find out what game system(s) he has).

Gift cards: Get a gift card to a toy store, game store, or book store. They can choose what they get, so you know they'll like it!

If they like a particular character, you can find almost anything. Lots of boys this age like Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Hulk, Spongebob, Yu-gi-oh, Dragonball Z, Fantastic Four, Teen Titans, Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc. You can find toys, clothes, games, coloring books...almost anything with their favorite character on it.

Movies: Find a kid-friendly movie, and you're ready to go! Kids are usually not too picky at this age. Again, ask about what they like and that will guide you in the right direction.

Clothes: Find out what size they are...Walmart and Target have really cute inexpensive clothes.

If this is a special boy in your life, and you can afford it:
Nintendo DS, Gameboy...boys this age can't get enough of hand held video games! If they already have one, consider getting some new games they can play with.

No matter what your budget is, getting a gift for a 6 year old boy won't be hard. Using the list as your guide, you can fit the perfect gift into your budget.
