The best gift an animal lover can receive is an animal. This may or may not be practical for the recipient. Before you buy an animal, make sure that the recipient will be able to properly care for the animal and there are no conflicts with other animals, people, apartment rules, etc. Once you have established that the animal is going to be a good fit for the recipient it is time to pick the animal. The best choice, and most affordable, is adopting a pet from a local animal shelter. These animals need a good home and have lots of love to give. Adoption fees are usually around $50 and will most likely cover spaying or neutering and shots.
The next best thing for an animal lover to receive is an adoption kit. Local zoos and wild life preserves often offer ways to adopt an animal. Usually, a minimal fee is charged and the recipient will receive a certificate, photograph, and information about the adopted animal. Money received will go towards the animal's needs. This is a fun way to help out animals in need without actually bringing them into your home!
Another great gift idea is a membership or tickets to a local zoo. This is like two gifts because money is being given to a great cause (which will be greatly appreciated) and the recipient has something that can be used all year. How else would an animal lover want to spend a day? They get to explore a zoo and learn all bout animals. This is definitely a gift that keeps on giving.
For a little bit pricier gift, you can get tickets to a show or event involving animals. For example, if the person you are shopping for likes cats or dogs, get them ticket to a local cat show or dog show. Check with your local zoo, aquarium, or animal shelter for information about upcoming shows in your area. An expensive gift for dolphin lovers would be an opportunity to swim with dolphins or a trip to Discovery Cove.
What else would an animal lover enjoy receiving this holiday season? How about a book about their favorite animal? To make it even more special, try to find a book with lots of pictures of the animal. There are also lots of statues, figurines, and knick knacks that depict animals. Again, find out what the recipients favorite animal is and check your local discount store. If you still can't find anything with the animal's likeness, check the gift shop at your local zoo. They should have something with almost every animal.
Check for mugs, mouse pads, and other everyday items. You may even find a cute stuffed animal. The holiday season is also the right time for calendar shopping. There are lots of calendars with pictures of animals that the recipient can enjoy the whole year.
If all else fails, buy any gift for the animal lover on your list and wrap it in some type of animal designed paper. Or, get a card depicting their favorite animal.
There are many animal out there, and lots of people will be shopping for them this holiday season. Use this guide to assist you as you shop locally or online. Enjoy your shopping experience and have a wonderful holiday season!
