Chord Chart
When you first start playing guitar it can be difficult to remember where to put your fingers to make the sound that you want. A chord chart can be great to help you remember chords you may have forgotten. A chord chart can also be great for more advanced players. There are so any different chords that one is bound to slip your mind at one point or another. The best chord charts are ones that can be easily slipped into a guitar case and carried along.
Electronic Tuner
Everyone wants their guitar to be in tune, but keeping it that way can be a difficult task. When you change altitude or your guitar goes into different temperatures then the tuning for your instrument can change. An electronic tuner will generally attach to your guitar and help you tune each string individually. Many guitar players can tune their instrument by ear, but when your in a crowded area, or need to tune on the fly and electronic tuner can make tuning much easier.
Extra Strings
No matter how hard you try to preserve them at some point your guitar strings are going to break. An extra set of guitar strings is a relatively inexpensive gift that is very useful for a beginning guitar player. At some point during the life of their guitar everyone will need a new set of strings.
Guitar strings come in several different gauges. If you are unsure what gauge of guitar strings to purchase for your gift recipient then talk to a guitar shop owner. Guitar shop workers can typically recommend an appropriate size.
Guitar Picks
When I first started playing guitar I think I left a pick everywhere I took my guitar. Picks are something that often get lost and misplaced, but when your a beginner are essential in order to play. There are tons of different types of guitar picks on the market, some novelty guitar picks can make fun gifts. Several guitar shops today will allow you to create your own custom guitar picks with a name, logo, or photograph on them. If you're purchasing a gift for a no frills types of guitar player then you can purchase a pack of several guitar picks relatively inexpensively as well.
A Song Book
A guitar is no fun if you don't have anything to play on it. Most guitar stores will have song books with the correct notes for a variety of different popular songs. if your gift recipient likes a particular type of music then try getting them a song book with music by one of their favorite artists. For the true beginner there are a variety of song books designed for the beginner with exercises teaching finger strokes for each song, and then a song that can be played after each lesson.
Guitar Strap
most guitars do not come with straps. There are thousands of different novelty straps that you can purchase that will fit on any guitar. Pick out a guitar strap that fits the personality of your gift recipient.
Training Video
Even the best guitar players can still learn something from a guitar training video. if your gift recipient is a new guitar player then consider getting them a guitar DVD or video to help the along. There are tons of different options usually catered to the particular type of guitar someone has started to play and their personal skill level.
