Top Gifts for Fans of Today's Best TV Dramas

If you're trying to buy gifts for friends or family who are fans of current TV dramas, be sure to check out the many dvd sets now available for purchase. DVD versions of past seasons of TV dramas like Grey's Anatomy and House are great gifts for new fans trying to catch up and current fans who want to relive the entertainment. If you're a fan of top TV dramas, you might want to pick up a few extra "gifts" for yourself.

Many dvd sets cost fifty dollars or more, but if you shop around, you can find discounts. Ebay sellers often have unopened dvds for signficantly lower prices. Overstock.com also sells new sets for lower prices. As you're buying gifts, you probably don't want a used set, but you can often find those online, too, for a lower price than the suggested retail value. You just need to show around some.

Here are some top shows to consider:

Lost, Seasons 1 & 2. Lost is a top-rated, critically praised, Emmy-winning adventure drama with a large cast and an intricate plot. If you have a friend of family member who'd like to join the legions of Lost fans, get him or her Season 1 and/or 2 on dvd for the purposes of brushing up on the basics - or catching all those "Easter eggs." Lost stars Matthew Fox, Terry O'Quinn, Dominic Monaghan, Evangeline Lily, and a ton of other people! It goes on hiatus for several months this winter - perfect for new fans who want to catch up with the dvds.

Grey's Anatomy, Seasons 1 & 2. Even up against CSI, Grey's Anatomy remains a top tv show in the ratings as Season 3 begins. Get fans of the show Season 1 & 2 on dvd to let them relive the McDreamy magic. (I personally think the show improved a lot during Season 2. ) Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey and Emmy nominees Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh star.

The Wire, Seasons 1-3. This critically accalimed HBO drama is considered by some to be the best tv series ever on American television. How you like them apples? In a no hold's barred fashion, the writers, actors, and directors of The Wire depict in stunning detail the ins and outs of life on the meanest of streets- the drug ghetto of West Baltimore. Things are seldom fair, and no episode ends with a neat wrap up. A plot-intensive series, The Wire is definitely not a gifts for fans with short attention spans. Season 4 currently airs on HBO. An enormous cast includes Dominic West, Sonja Sohn, and Frankie Faison.

Bones, Season 1. Fans of the latter show might appreciate the gift of Bones. The dvd features season 1 of a series where Emily Deschanel's title character as a forensics expert who helps FBI guy David Boreanaz close cases with the merest of physical evidence - usually some, yeah, bones. Season 2 is currently airing on Fox. An interesting crime drama that comes in somewhere between CSI and House.

House, Seasons 1 & 2. Brit Hugh Laurie has won legions of American fans as acerbic (understatement) doctor Gregory House. As House, Laurie solved medical mysteries while he deadpans colleagues, patients, and everyone else he comes across. His determination is absolute, his bedside manner is absolutely horrible. The mysterious illness and House's solutions have sometimes been decried as unrealistic (and the stories, formulaic) but that doesn't stop the show from being entertaining. Omar Epps and Lisa Edelstein also star.

Commander In Chief. This dvd set will be interesting to TV fans as a portrait of a series self-destructing. Starring Oscar-winner Geena Davis as the first female president of the USA, the series suffered from behind-the-scenes drama and tanked by the end of the season- despite a strong star. This set would make a good gift for Davis fans, as she is strong throughout (even when the material is decidedly not). Other fans might enjoy watching Donald Sutherland drawl and chew scenery at the same time as Davis' character's arch-enemy, a conservative senator. Kyle Secor also stars. Look for a late season, non-show-saving appearance my Mark-Paul Goesselar.
