Top Golfing Lessons in Southwest Washington

Gwendolyn Taylor
Golf is an amazing sport, full of challenges and uphill battles. It can be incredibly rewarding at times, but also may present frustrating challenges. For some, a golf instructor for paid golf lessons is the best solution to these challenges, be it for just learning the sport, getting rid of an annoying slice shot habit, or for getting back into the game after several years hiatus. Southwest Washington offers an array of golf courses and driving ranges to learn this elegant sport on, often situated amongst towering fir trees and picturesque trout streams. I spent several years taking lessons at various established golf locales in the area. Some were excellent, others sub-par. Consider the following spots for great summer (and year-round) golf lessons in Southwest Washington state, just a short drive from Portland, Oregon.

Westside Driving Range is situated at the northern part of Vancouver, Washington and is one of the nicest driving ranges in the area. This was always a popular spot to come and practice my golf shot, be it with an instructor or just with my friends. The prices are fairly standard (for a driving range), but the pro shop has an excellent selection of various types of golf equipment and the driving range itself is very nicely maintained. Check it out, just off of the I-5/I-205 interchange in the Salmon Creek portion of Vancovuer, Washington at 106 NW 139th Street, (360)-573-2565.

Tri-Mountain Golf Course, in Ridgefield, Washington is a spectacular place to get quality pro lessons. The scenery is absolutely astounding, and while it lacks the amazing fir trees found on other Washington courses, it makes up for that with thrilling views of the major nearby mountains (Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Adams). The course itself is incredibly nice and well-groomed. The pro shop offers a huge selction of gear and the awesome clubhouse really is a great place to relax after a long day of golf. The course itself is 18 holes and is set tricky sand traps and large water hazards, keeping the game play interesting. I took lessons here with several friends, making it an enjoyable learning opportunity. The pro staff is really great and goes out of their way to make you feel at home. I learned loads of information on becoming a better golf player and got to spend quality time with the pros on the greens, at the driving range, and at the practice putting and chipping spots. Chipping can really take some getting used to, but the feeling of satisfaction after a great shot makes up for the hard work. Tri-Mountain is located at 1701 NW 299th Street, Ridgefield, (360)887-3004, be sure to check with them if you need a great place for golf lessons.
