This movie had it all; the cooler than cool navy pilots, humor, adventure, romance and action. The flight scenes were enough to make you leave everything at a moment's notice and enlist in the Navy. No matter who you are, but seeing those jets whip around the sky and clouds at super high speeds will give you the most stupendous adrenaline rush imaginable.
The movie isn't short on drama either. Cruise's character struggles with some personal issues that affect his flying, which of course endanger him and his fellow pilots. He is also cocky, but in a way that makes him liked and it is this attitude that shows what a great pilot he really can be.
If he could only overcome his confidence problem he would be number one, 'the best of the best' and he would also convince his love interest to stay and not leave for a better opportunity. At the end of the movie he does just that, defeating an enemy threat in the air and making the girl he loves come back to be with him. This is the perfect ending for our great hero.
With the completion of the Top Gun program, he is left with the choice to be whatever he wants. Of course, he chooses to become a Top Gun instructor and make sure the 'best of the best' stay as the best.
