Top of the Hill Restaurant: In Historic Chapel Hill, North Carolina

While vacationing in North Carolina, my wife and I visited our son and daughter-in-law who live in the Raleigh area. They suggested that we take some time to travel to Chapel Hill and walk the brick lined paths that travel through UNC's grounds and see the sights. We are grateful they did!

Chapel Hill North Carolina is an absolute beauty! Chapel Hill with its' beautiful tree lined streets is home to the University of North Carolina main campus. We enjoyed our stroll around the campus area and down the streets that surround it. As we worked our way back towards our car, we decided to stay in Chapel Hill for lunch.

Our son and daughter-in-law explained that at the top of the hill in Chapel Hill was a great restaurant with a fitting name... Top of The Hill! They had been there before and highly recommended it. They explained that it's unique and would be an experience we would enjoy and remember. They were right! Top of The Hill Restaurant is, as the name suggests, at the peak of the hill on Franklin Street. What's more, the restaurant is located on the third floor!

We were greeted by our hostess and promptly seated on the open air terrace. What a fantastic view we had of this beautiful city from this vantage point! We actually had to pull ourselves away from discussing the stunning view to place our order.

We began with an appetizer of Lizard Chips, which are sliced dill pickle and jalapeno chips fried in a beer batter and served with a chipotle ranch dipping sauce. They were delicious, with a snappy tang, but not too hot.

For lunch, our daughter-in-law ordered the Grilled Garden Sandwich, which has grilled marinated squash, zucchini and bermuda onions with swiss cheese on toasted sourdough bread. My wife ordered the New South BLT, it has smoked bacon, romaine lettuce and fried tomatoes on toasted wheatberry bread. My son and I both ordered the The Top Cheeseburger, a huge burger with lettuce, tomato and red onion on a french roll with aioli and cheese.

What's to say! This lunch was absolutely scrumptious! There is nothing better than enjoying a fantastic lunch while taking in a gorgeous view of such a beautiful city with the ones you love! We will always be grateful to our son and daughter-in-law for suggesting this trip and their recommendation of Top of The Hill Restaurant.
