Deceased Actors of 2010

It's Christmas season and the New Year is just days away I think it's time to think back and remember the actors we've lost this year. We remember these actors, people we don't know because even they were all a big part of our lives. It was these actors who made us laugh when you were down and they were there when you wanted a good cry.

The very least we can do is remember these actors that we grew up with and it was they who touched our lives over the years.

This is not a full comprehensive list of recently deceased actors as there are those who were only stage or theater performers. This list is in memoriam to the actors of the Silver Screen and Television that touched our lives.

Leslie Nielsen:

Canadian-born American actor and comedian. Leslie Nielsen died at the age of 84. Best known for his role in 1980 comedy, 'Airplane!' the movie as well as all of the 'The Naked Gun' films. The fact is that Nielsen appeared in well over 100 movies as well as 1500 television shows.

Tom Bosley also acted in guest appearances on 'Murder, She Wrote' and 'Father Dowling Mysteries' where he played a Catholic priest which is interestingly ironic as he was Jewish. Bosely then also developed the leading role for, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical, 'Fiorello!'

Actor Tom Bosley died at 4 a.m. of heart failure October 19, 2010, at the Rancho Mirage, California hospital. Bosley had already been battling lung cancer and the sudden death may have been a blessing in disguise as it saved him from even more suffering from the cancer.

Child Actor Gary Coleman:

Actor Gary Coleman, born February 8, 1968 is best known for his acting in the sitcom 'Different Strokes' in which he portrayed "Arnold Jackson" from 1978 to 1986. During the 1980s the actor was considered one of the most promising stars. Upon completion of the TV show, in which he starred, the young actor found it impossible to find work as a full time actor.

The actor Garey Coleman found himself destitute and almost entirely broke after his business adviser and his parents misappropriated the actors 'Diff'rent Strokes' money. In a high profile lawsuit, the actor sued both his parents and business adviser for misappropriation of funds. The lawsuit culminated with Garey Coleman winning his lawsuit in 1989. It was a bit of a hollow victory as the money he had earned as a child actor was long gone.

There are very few public records for actor Garey Coleman's medical history. On Wednesday, May 26, 2010, actor Garey Coleman was rushed to the hospital after falling down the stairs in his home and hitting his head. The actor was admitted to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah. His condition was reported as critical. The following morning the hospital reported that Garey was conscious and lucid though his condition rapidly declined. Actor Garey Coleman died at 12:05 pm MDT on Friday, May 28, 2010.

Canadian-Born Actor Corey Haim:

Actor Corey Haim was born December 23, 1971 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He became an 80s megastar as a child actor. The actors movie credits include 'Lucas', 'Murphy's Romance', 'License to Drive' and 'Dream a Little Dream'. The movie role the propelled actor Corey Haim to super stardom was the blockbuster film in which he acted alongside Corey Feldman in 'The Lost Boys'. The actors incredible success possibly contributed to his drug use as drugs were easily accessible to him. By the age of 15 he was already an addict.

Actor Corey Haim had great difficulty making the transition from child star to adult actor. In fact, aside from a few small projects and appearances, the actor was unable to find work and fell on hard times. He would never bounce back and towards the end of his life he was sharing an apartment with his mother in Burbank California.
On March 10, 2010 the actors mother called 911, paramedics quickly arrived and took the actor to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. By 2:15 AM (UTC) actor Corey Haim was declared dead. It was later found that he had overdosed on, possibly for purposes of suicide though Police declared it accidental, Valium, Vicodin, Soma as well as Haloperidol which is an anti-psychotic medication. All the drugs were prescribed to him and no illegal street drugs were discovered.

These actors, some of whom passed away far too young, are and will be missed by millions. They are immortalized by the films they appeared in as well as in the hearts and minds of the fans who grew up watching these actors works. May they all rest in peace and if there is an afterlife we can only hope that they are smiling from the knowledge that they were all so very loved.

In the interest of article length, this article will be concluded for now but will continue with Part 2 of "Deceased Actors of 2010."

Reminds me of that section in the OSCARS where the now departed are momentarily highlighted. Nice list... brought a couple of tears to my eyes and many, many memories to my mind.
