Top Men's College Basketball Players in 2009-2010

JM Van Horn
The start of the 2009-2010 men's college basketball season upon us and as we anxious await for March madness why not get acquainted with some of the best players in the country.

Sherron Collins (Guard - Kansas University)
Collins will be entering his senior year and is primed to do what he can to bring home a national championship to his school. During his junior season, Collins averaged 18.3 points per game with 4.9 assists per game.

Collins biggest improvement last season, aside from the points per game, was his three point percentage which jumped to 37.6 percent. The question is will Collins continue to improve as he enters his second full season as the point guard for the Kansas Jayhawks?

Kalin Lucas (Guard - Michigan State Spartans)
When people ask what why the number one reason the Spartans advanced deep into the 2009 NCAA tournament, you do not need to look any further than their point guard Kalin Lucas. The team's floor general took his game to a new level last year and has made a case for himself as the top player in the country this year.

Last year, Lucas averaged 14.7 points per game with 4.6 assists while knocking down 39 percent of his three point attempts. If Lucas does not let the preseason hype get into his head, then he should be in store for a very productive season.

Cole Aldrich (Center - Kansas University)
When it comes to big men in the college basketball ranks, the productive ones are limited best. The best of the group for the 2009-2010 season has to be Kansas' Aldrich. This senior center/forward came into the role last year with Kansas and set career highs in just about every category.

During his junior season, Aldrich averaged a double-double by scoring 14.9 points per game while pulling down 11.1 rebounds. Expect the Jayhawks to win several games this season because of the play of Aldrich down in the paint.

Evan Turner (Forward - Ohio State University)
College basketball fans missed out on the chance of seeing a rising superstar last year when the Ohio State Buckeyes were treated to an early exit from the tournament. Otherwise, they would have seen Turner whose ability to attack the basket in a variety of ways.

Last year, Turner was able to average 17.3 points per game while pulling down 7.1 rebounds and dishing out 4.1 assists throughout the season. Turner was only one of two players who were able to match these number during the season. If he is able to continue this success, he will make a serious run at the top player in the Big Ten conference.

Luke Harangody (Forward - Notre Dame)
While the senior forward for the Fighting Irish may have an unorthodox style of play, there is no denying Harangody's hustle or ability he has to will his team to victory.

Last season, Harangody averaged 23.3 points per game while hauling in 11.8 rebounds and .9 blocks per contest. If Harangody is able to continue to improve upon his perimeter shots, then his appeal should rise for those in the NBA ranks.

Scottie Reynolds (Guard - Villanova)

While some college basketball fans felt Reynolds dropped off into the background during his sophomore season, he reminds them who he was, especially during the 2009 NCAA tournament.

During his junior season, Reynolds averaged 15.2 points per game with 3.4 assists per game. Though he did lower his three point completion rate, Reynolds was able to reduce the amount of turnovers he caused. Keep an eye on Reynolds who should command more attention this year on a talented Villanova team.
