Pocket Legends
Pocket Legends is the MMO for the portable Apple devices like iPods and iPhones. It features a large, persistent fantasy world where you can meet your friend and do battle with them or against them. PvP (player vs player combat) is one of the options in Pocket Legends. The graphics aren't bad either, a rather cartoony-animal look, but definitely pretty solid, especially for a mobile game. Interestingly enough, this super popular app is free in the iTunes store. However, Pocket Legends does offer an online shop, where players can pay small bits of money to access more areas of the game, buy better items, or further customize their character. This is a form of micro-transactions and is super popular for many free MMORPGs. Pocket Legends has received rave reviews online, with YahooTech calling it "World of Warcraft in your pocket" and TouchArcade stating that Pocket Legends had "the best online gameplay on the iPhone." Pocket Legends is definitely worth checking out. Look for it on the iTunes store!
Tibia ME Online
Based on the super popular PC MMORPG, Tibia, Tibia ME is a "light" MMORPG that is available fore free, like Pocket Legends. Unlike Pocket Legends, it is a 2d game, and definitely less detailed. However, it has a solid following and is a good MMORPG to check out for portable devices like the iPod or iPhone. I played the original game (still online and still running) for many years and can vouch for the hard work put out by the development team. It's tough to compete with a 2d game in today's 3d market, but the guys behind Tibia do it well. For a nice retro style MMORPG, check out Tibia ME!
Highland Warriors
When I saw Highland Warriors, the first thing I thought was, "Wow, looks like Dark Age of Camelot!" For hardcore MMO fans, Dark Age of Camelot should certainly sound familiar and Highland Warriors has a very similar style. Forget the cartoony Pocket Legends graphics, or the 2d retro stuff of Tibia ME, Highland Warriors goes right for the realistic 3d style of games like Everquest, Shadowbane, and Dark Age of Camelot. See the hyperlink above for more info on this MMO for Apple devices!
