Top Nail Polish Shades for 2010

Perfectly manicured nails are often the best accessory next to a well put together outfit. Just like apparel, there are certain key colors that are highlighted as trends for the season. For spring / summer, shades of brown top the list with hues varying from taupe to coffee. These colors look best against a tanned skin tone and look sophisticated and polished when paired with bright gold jewelry, like a thick cuff or cocktail ring.

Two new colors for the season already becoming best sellers: O.P.I.'s "Chop-Sticking to My Story" a golden shade of brown and Chanel's "Particulière", a fresh shade of taupe setting the trend setting bar. Though the IT color by Chanel will cost $23 a bottle, you can opt for a more affordable hue, like Rimmel's Lasting Finish Pro in Steel Grey, a mushroom taupe shade for just $4.

Surprisingly, greens also made a color debut for summer and it looks like this nail color trend could transcend into fall. Of course, leave it to Chanel to set the trend with its release of Jade, a gorgeous shade of mint green. Though pastel colors may seem more fitting for spring/summer, expect deeper shades of green to appear on fall manicures. Keep your eye on Essie's Turquoise & Caicos, a shiny blend of turquoise and green, sure to complement any black winter attire.

We're not sure what to expect yet for fall, but Chanel may be a good source for predicting trends. They are after all responsible for two of the best selling colors to date, "Vamp" and "Black Satin". Their most recent release for fall includes colors of chocolate grays and deep plums. Headlining the new collection is Le Vernis Nail Colous in Paradoxal, a dark iridescent gray-violet. Although Paradoxal was not seen on the models hands who graced the runways, it's a still a sure nail trend bet. Rumor has it; there is unnamed pale blue shade that's been spotted in the most recent Resort runway for 2011. Blues have already been a recent hit, with popular hues like, NARS' Blue Lagoon and Butter London's Nail Polish in Muggins. For an affordable selection, try China Glaze's For Audrey, naturally inspired by the iconic shade of Tiffany Blue priced at $6 a bottle. It should be a nice diversion from the usual dark shades expected during fall. Looks like things are looking a bit brighter these days, at least when it comes to our hands.
