Top NFL Runningbacks for 2009 NFL Season

Break-out Players

David Kenny
Indianapolis Colts runningback Joseph Addai is a sleeper pick for a good fantasy team. Addai is a multi-talented runningback who has large burst of speed and power. When he get the ball in open field, Joesph Addai has the ability to either break tackles by running people over or junking them out of their shoes. His ability to make big plays in open field will create problems for the other teams defense. If Addai lines up and is being covered by a linebacker, look for Peyton Manning to throw the ball to Addai because he will have the match up advantage against most linebackers. With a superstar quarterback like Peyton Manning, Joesph Addai will catch many balls coming out of the back field. Peyton Manning is the best in the NFL at throwing the ball to his runningbacks, so Addai will catch balls for big gains coming out of the back field.

Minnesota Vikings runningback Adrian Peterson has been the best runningback in the NFL since he came in to the league two years ago. Since Peterson was drafted by Minnesota in the first round in the 2007 NFL draft, He has been a dominate force that defenses have to game plan around. Peterson is a quick and powerful runningback, who runs hard on every play and usually will break-out for a large run at lease once a game. Adrian Peterson just keeps getting better year by year. He is starting his third NFL season and he has over 3,100 rushing yards on only 601 running attempts. Peterson has nearly 400 yards passing in his first 2 seasons in the NFL. Adrian Peterson lead the NFL in rushing in 2008 with over 1700 rushing yards and with a 4.8 average yards per carry. Now that he is starting his third season look for him to have his biggest season ever. Peterson will catch more balls out of the back field this season, because of the extra pressure that will be put on quarterback Brett Favre. Peterson is a great check down receiver when Brett Favre gets in trouble. This season Minnesota will play the NFC west against Seattle, St. Louis, and San Francisco who all have a less the average rush defense. Minnesota will also play the AFC north against Cleveland who was 28th in rushing last year and Cincinnati who gave up over 1,900 rushing yards last season. Look out for both games where Minnesota plays Detroit. Detroit gave up 172 rushing yards a game in 2008. Adrian Peterson the best runningback last year against the worst rush defense last season.
