Finding Yogawear

Pam Gaulin
Wearing the right clothing is important for practicing yoga and exercising.

Yoga practitioners should not wear bulky clothing and shirts that can distract from their yoga practice. It's not fun to go into a downdog only to have and over-sized shirt hang down in front of your face.

Bulky clothing should definitely not be worn by yoga beginners in a public class. The instructor needs to see your form, to ensure that you are doing the pose properly, and not twisting or moving in a way that can cause more harm than good. Loose and comfortable clothing is preferable to bulky, over-sized clothing.

Clothing worn to a public yoga class should also not be too revealing. Women practicing yoga do not want to go into forward bend and show way more than they should, from any direction.

Not wearing the proper clothing to yoga can also distract you from your main purpose: the practice of yoga. When you are busy rolling sleeves, tucking shirts, lifting thebottom of pants, pulling down the bottom of a shirt, you are working against yourself.

Wear the right clothing, like standard gym or dance gear, or purchase a couple of basic items from one of these online yoga clothing stores.

Your absolutly right about the unitard. I've haven't tried yoga yet but I do a lot of hiking in the desert where I live and climb the mountains out here. I usually use my black turtleneck unitard but I tried climbing in regular cloths and it was amazing the difference. Every step my pants pulled on my legs tiring me out grabbing and binding at every step. I never knew that clothing cold make such a difference.
