Top Pant Trends: Skinny Jeans, Leggings and Jeggings

Looking back, I can still see myself wearing leggings in the fifth grade with sweaters and oversize grommet belts. So when the trendy "jeggings" hit the scene I couldn't believe my eyes. These second-skin-pants are not only the "chosen" pants for the season but I was buying a pair for my five-year-old daughter.

The concept of these tight-like pants having a revolutionary staying power due to marketers creating a hybrid pant surprised me. Even more importantly, this spin off of the "jegging" or "treggings" depending on your location has become so popular they're one of this season's leading fashions. These trendy pants were created by a collision with skinny jeans and leggings.

Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans are found in many department, outlet and retailing company offering clothing. Though these pants are considered jeans; some styles of this pant are not made of the traditional denim. In order to create a snug fit many of these pants are produced with a percentage of spandex while others are blends of polyester, lycra, cotton and spandex. The fit is tight and slender from the hips down and allow very little room for "error." These pants work well in the summer with sandals and are perfect for tucking into a pair of leather boots.

Leggings

These skin tight slim pants are made in all sizes to accommodate children, teens and adults. Retailers have created leggings with embellishments such as burnouts, sequins, beads and studs and in length to accommodate any height. Long tunic style shirts, fitted sweaters and over sized jackets paired with these pants are stylish and easy ensembles to put together. Liquid leggings are a way for you to add "oomph" due to the material. Liquid leggings are similar to pleather but much lighter; making the legging dressier but still offering a smooth fit.

Jeggings

These stylish combinations of skinny jeans and leggings equal the creation of jeggings. Jeggings have the zipper and pockets imprinted or topstiched on the pant so you can get that skin tight, painted on look without the restrictive or tight feel of regular skinny jeans. The addition of a trendsetting animal tunic or long sweater will liven up the look of your jeggings.

My ten-year-old niece has had a time finding jeans. She hates the skinny ones--and they're all she can find. I hate baggy. Wonder if there'll ever be a "just right" again?

I used to love leggings but my thighs can't pull them off today. ;-)
