Top Picks for New American Idol Judges 2010

Jacqueline Winslow
As we wait to hear who are going to be our American Idol judges, I can't help but wonder if the American Idol producers have thought to ask American who they want. Remember when we heard Ellen DeGeneres was going to be a judge and we all asked, "Why? Really, are you serious?"

It wasn't that Ellen is a bad person; it was more that America didn't understand their choice. As the American Idol season, with Ellen DeGeneres as a judge began, our questions continued. Yes, she was funny at time but there was no experience and her viewpoints couldn't that of an American Idol viewer because, hey, she's Ellen. Now, I know they wanted a normal viewer's opinion, but if that was the case, they would have opened the auditions up to the public. The general public meaning not a celebrity as we know Ellen is as well-known as anyone.

The problem with Ellen was that she was just too Ellen. As person that's fine but as an American Idol judge, it just didn't work. America wanted someone who was a pro at having a music career. We wanted someone who could hold their own against Simon Cowell. The best Ellen had was to through sexual slurs over to Simon. For a family friendly show, I can honestly say that was a major turnoff. She just didn't have that Paula Abdul flavor we all have come to love over the years. Nor did she have her own Ellen flavor. If she did, American didn't like it.

American Idol Without Kara

Kara DioGuardi was a judge I didn't understand from the beginning. Yes, she writes music. She was brought in to replace Paula Abdul on American Idol. My question then and my question now is, "How do you replace Paula?" The simple answer is that you can't. What you can do is bring in a completely different type of judge.

If we look at this past seasons guest judges, we see that the American Idol producers were finally figuring out what America Idol viewers loved. We loved singers who are well known and know their stuff... and no, I'm not talking about Miley Cyrus as she was my least favorite guest judge.

Harry Connick Jr. was not only crazy amazing; he really cared about the contestants. Not only does he have an amazing voice that I just love, he knows his music. He's been around the block a time or two and did and can help the contestants as they slowly begin their music career. The fact is that Harry Connick Jr. would skyrocket American Idol ratings because he is his own person and won't need to replace Paula Abdul. He's Harry Connick Jr. and that is enough!

Come on American Idol, we want Harry Connick Jr.!

We've all heard the rumors that Jennifer Lopez is our newest judge on American Idol. This just validates my theory that the American Idol producers are changing the makeup of American Idol. They've realized American Idol viewers want the best. We want American icons that are well-known, respected, and know what there're talking about. Jennifer Lopez can only make the show better as she's beautiful, a star, and has the knowledge to make a name for herself as an American Idol judge.

Who will they pick to be the next American Idol Judges? Will they listen to the voice of the American Idol viewers? Who knows, but we will certainly be watching, waiting, and listening for American Idol news.
