Top Production Shows in Las Vegas

Kathy Holmes
Claiming to be the "Entertainment Capital of the World," Las Vegas has much entertainment to offer visitors. Headliners and production shows are the two most popular types of entertainment, either of which can be on top like the climbing and falling of the roller coaster ride on top of New York/New York. But no matter what type of entertainment is the most popular, you can always find production shows in Las Vegas.

While everybody has their list of favorite Las Vegas shows, from Las Vegas locals to the L.A. Times to Aunt Mabel, here is a list of the top shows that most people agree on.

Cirque du Soleil's shows have become enormously popular from Las Vegas to Walt Disney World and there are at least five in Las Vegas: O at Bellagio, Mystère at TI at the Mirage, at the MGM Grand, Love (a Tribute to the Beatles) at the Mirage, and Zumanity at New York/New York. You may not be able to choose between them, but anyone of them is tops on anybody's list. My personal favorite is O.

The Cirque shows are a far cry from the classic Vegas topless show and if you're interested in seeing what one of those is all about you should see Jubilee! at Bally's. It's a time-honored Vegas tradition and everybody should see it once. With the lowest price being $50, it's also a lot cheaper than a Cirque show, which start at almost twice that price for O, although tickets for other Cirque shows can be found for much less.

Two other classic Vegas shows are the Folies Bergere at the Tropicana and Crazy Girls at the Riviera, although the latter is much more risqué. You can sometimes find discounted tickets or combined with a dinner show. If female impersonators are more your thing, then check out An Evening at La Cage, also at the Riviera. Tickets are $75.

Mamma Mia at Mandalay Bay, a Broadway show in Las Vegas,is a real crow pleaser and worth seeing even if you've seen the movie. Tickets start at just under $50 and are available nightly Sunday through Thursday and twice on Saturday night. This show is suitable for the entire family and a welcome change from the over-the-top, risqué shows found so often on the Strip.

It's good to know that no matter how often Las Vegas reinvents itself, some of the classic Las Vegas shows still remain. And no matter when you come to Las Vegas, there's bound to be plenty of entertainment to go around. And that's what makes this city so exciting. Anything can happen.

For tickets and reservations, contact the hotel where the show is scheduled. Also, if you're a guest at the hotel, you may be offered special assistance in securing tickets. Prices may vary so check with your hotel concierge for the best deal.
