Fine Dining for a Memorable Prom Experience

Yvette Bigornia
Prom is the ultimate social event for high school students. Whether you're going to the prom with a date or with a group of friends, one thing you may consider is where to go for dinner before prom.

Woodbridge Township, NJ has some of the best restaurants in the area. If you live in or nearby Woodbridge, here are some places to go for a memorable prom experience.

Bonefish Grill
625 US Highway 1 South
Iselin, NJ 08830
(732) 634-7379
www.bonefishgrill.com

Hours
Monday - Thursday: 4:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m.
Friday: 4:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
Saturday: 3:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
Sunday: 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.

I went to the Bonefish Grill a few times and this place never disappoints. Bonefish Grill has a polished, casual setting that helps you relax and is formal enough to celebrate your special day. The restaurant serves some unique dishes cooked over a wood-burning grill. Even though the place offers a wide variety of fish selections, they also serve other specialties like steak, chicken and pork. Speaking of pork, you should try the Fontina Chop, a boneless pork chop with Fontina cheese, garlic, prosciutto & mushroom marsala wine sauce.

Be forewarned: This place does get crowded so it's best to make reservations a few days in advance.

Ristorante Venezia
112 Main Street
Woodbridge, New Jersey 07095
www.ristorantevenezia.com
Phone: (732) 855-8995

Hours:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday-Thursday: 11:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Friday: 11:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
Saturday: 5:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m.
Sunday: 3:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Ristorante Venezia is a family-owned Italian restaurant that serves cuisines made from the freshest ingredients and prepared to order. Even though I've only been there once, the service is outstanding and the interior decor is elegant. One entree I recommend is Linguine Venezia, linguini pasta with chunks of chicken, broccoli & sun-dried tomatoes in garlic & oil. Plus, if you're going with a large group of friends, Ristorante Venezia also has private rooms available upon request.

Chris Michaels Steakhouse and Lounge
40 Oakwood Avenue
Woodbridge, NJ 07095
(732) 634-5355
www.chrismichaelsnj.com

Hours:
Monday-Saturday: 5:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
Sun: 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

When you first arrive at Chris Michaels, it looks like a palace, especially with the trees lighting up at the entranceway. When you go in, the restaurant has a contemporary décor that is similar to upscale New York City restaurants. The steakhouse restaurant & sushi lounge serves USDA Prime beef on a 450 degree plate and the sushi bar serves the most unique sushi rolls. The place is expensive (price range around $20-$30), but if money is no object, then Chris Michaels is the place to go.

The Barge Restaurant & Cocktail
201 Front Street
Perth Amboy, NJ 08861
(732) 442-3000
www.thebarge.com

Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 11:30 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Friday: 11:30 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
Saturday: 11:30 a.m.-11:00 p.m.
Sunday: 12:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.

Lastly, The Barge -- family-owned since 1925 -- is a place with great food and an amazing setting overlooking the waterfront at the Raritan Bay. Even though this place is outside of Woodbridge Township, this seafood and steakhouse restaurant serves Maine lobsters daily and steaks and chops cooked over a charcoal pit. (However, be careful eating the lobster while you're wearing your tux or dress!) Their meals are served in huge portions, but if you're planning to share a plate, there is a $2.00 charge. While you're there, you should try the Barge Special entree, stuffed fresh filet of flounder with homemade crabmeat stuffing, and side of potato and vegetables.
