There are various reasons that one may want to switch away from Microsoft Windows or Mac OS to Ubuntu. Of course it's all up to personal opinions other then a few features and sets of programs exclusive to each operating system. However, what makes Ubuntu 10.04 LTS so special?
Stability
One of the main focuses of most modern operating systems is stability. When done right, programs can run flawlessly without the fear of crashing it and the entire system. In Ubuntu, if a program crashes the user is still able to go on using the computer and forcefully remove the frozen program.
User-Friendly
Aside from system stability, Ubuntu has a large focus on being user friendly. There are different levels of Ubuntu software for each knowledge level, and even a Ubuntu just for children. Each one is customizable with big fonts and icons if the user chooses./
Being user-friendly is great for gaining new users, but Ubuntu hasn't managed to even come close to the share of market that Windows controls. This is probably due to fear of Ubuntu being too complex, but this simply isn't true. Ubuntu is one of the best operating systems out there, especially when it comes to customization.
Programs
Ubuntu nearly has a program for everything, and the thing that makes it special is the fact that all of them are open-source. This means that almost all programs on Ubuntu, and the operating system itself can be customized or otherwise modified at the code level.
This allows for the community to create their own versions of programs which are likely released to the public. Features are ever evolving, and always changing. Users may find some of the programs that come with Ubuntu to be more impressive than that of Windows programs.
Support
Finally, Ubuntu has a massive support group and community. There are hundreds, if not thousands of websites devoted to this ever evolving operating system. In addition to that there are Ubuntu local teams all over the world designed to spread the word about Ubuntu and its many features.
It's pretty obvious there are many reasons to install Ubuntu 10.04, whether it be installed beside Windows or not. This is one of the best operating systems currently available, and it is updated every 6 months with a new version. There are no catches with Ubuntu and it is totally free, so what is everyone waiting for.

Post a CommentI would put Linux on my netbook, but it is not capable of dual booting, so I would have to save everything and reload it each time. I would like to give Linux a try someday, though.
When Ubuntu becomes easy for uus non geeks to use it will become more popular. If I can't get my skype working I'm not going to use it. Seems like every version kills your audio and mikes and you have to be able to write programs to get anything to work. I hate microsoft but at least you can get your hardware to work!
