Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
In the future fire fighters don't put out fires they start them. Guy Montag is a fireman in charge of burning books. In a world where people aren't encouraged to think freely, Montag encounters a young girl who reminds him of the past where people weren't always afraid of the government and were encouraged to be individuals. As the story progresses Guy starts to change his ideas and becomes intrigued by the books he was once in charge of destroying. Fahrenheit 451 is a great example of classic science fiction that young readers need to go out and pick up.
War of the Worlds by HG Wells
It's time for some little green men to invade the earth. In HG Wells classic tale of invasion, martians have come to Earth to destroy the human race. The narrator struggles to save his family from the carnage brought about by the invaders. Here is another classic piece of science fiction writing that was way a head of its time.
