Top Six 3-D Video Games

C.B. Jones
Why six instead of five? because there are six key games that all deserve to be mentioned in this article. I could just rail off all of the 3-D glasses enabled games I know, but then I 'd have to call the list "Retro Video Games That Bathed in the Septic Tank of Three Dimensions," because most of them weren't anything special.

Outrun 3D.
Using a technique called "Super Scaler", which is a fancy way of saying the developers know how to utilize perspective and movement, Outrun became one of the first racing games to give players a realistic sense of speed. The arcade game and is many home ports are, for the most part, seen as gems in anyone's collection.

Outrun 3D is basically just like the other ports, only it utilized 3-D glasses made for SEGA's 8-bit Master System. It was one heck of an experience. Unfortunately, I can only give the point of view of a spectator. My older brother hogged the high tech specs and didn't give me much time with them.

Sly Cooper 3.
Sly Cooper is a mixture of Prince of Persia and Robin Hood, with a puffy tail. You play as an anthropomorphic raccoon who uses stealth tactics, as well as superior agility, to steal vast riches from evil doofuses who don't deserve to have said riches. This was one of PS2's premiere series.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves has a few levels designed to be played in conjunction with the game's included 3-D glasses. There's good news and bad news. The good news is these levels are optional. The bad news is these levels are optional, meaning the glasses are just a weak gimmick that's barely used at all for the game.

Rad Racer.
Rad Racer is to Outrun, as Emanuel Lewis is to Gary Coleman. I'm in no way saying either are knock offs. I'm just saying Rad Racer is very similar to Outrun. Some would say they are mirror images and don't do enough differently to distinguish each other.

Rad Racer didn't need special 3-D glasses that plugged into a slot on the console. You could use any cheap glasses that gave a three dimensional effect when worn. That means you don't have to scower eBay with crossed fingers, hoping those stupid glasses aren't considered as being "rare" or "an overpriced piece of crap/major collectors item" as I like to say.

Virtual Boy games.
AAhhh, the Virtual Boy. Nintendo's vision of the future was ahead of it's time. The best three games would have to be Pinball, Mario Tennis and Mario Golf. Like every V.B. game, those titles did a great job of presenting visuals in a 3-D(ish) atmosphere.

And just like every other V.B. game, they would probably ruin your eyesight if played for long periods of time. It's become somewhat of a running gag but it's no laughing matter. After about an hour or so of seeing nothing but red and black, your eyes would become sore. Play at your own risk.Outrun and Rad Racer are basically the same game, but by different companies. If you didn't play the Virtual Boy, your eyesight is probably perfect.
