Top Spring Family Sitcoms

Just a Sampling

When you choose family comedy to watch there is a fine line between making sure that it is funny and respectful, yet you don't want it to be "preachy" or else families won't watch it, and they'll opt for other things.

One show that is very good is "According to Jim." Jim is played by Jim Belushi and the stereotypical procedure of the show is that Jim is very opinionated about something that doesn't work out. While he broaches many things in a thoughtless manner he is quick to admit his own mistakes because his family is very important to him.

My favorite sitcom is the long-running cartoon show the "Simpsons." Some people would argue with me that this is not a reverent portrayal of the family but I think it is.

The Simpsons show the weaknesses of the human being in a humorous way and it also shows how we really feel-not how we should act but how we feel. When Homer is choking Bart it reflects how a parent has felt one time or another in their life (especially when the child is in their teens).

The Simpsons shows in a comedic way life at work and with friends and the way that a husband and wife relate when they love each other but don't share it enough.

"Two-and-a-Half Men" is not one of my favorite shows but it is popular with my friends so I thought I should mention it. It is the story of two men one of whom has a son (the "half-man") and how they relate their life in his eyes. The problem to me is that while funny, it encourages a sex-themed environment and I think that gives mothers and fathers the wrong idea about what a child needs. In fact, the constant viewing of scantily-clad women gives people the wrong ideas and makes women worth nothing more than eye candy.

"Tyler Perry's House of Payne" is about an African-American family that is jovial and while they aren't the classiest family they are a boisterous family that loves one another and while they treat one another with disrespect you know they would never let someone treat one of their family members the same way.

The last family is "That's so Raven" that adds a bit of the supernatural where "Raven" can see glimpses of the future and how that is dealt with as well as her friends.

There are many shows and it must be remembered that theses shows are what you make of them. I have never been one to ban television because I feel that creates more interest than will normally be there.
