If you are in the mood for a juicy, savory steak, chances are you're not really interested in one cooked up for just anybody. We once had a Golden Corral in Martinsville, where on Fridays you could march up to the buffet and they'd plant a thick, hearty slab of beef on your plate in whatever fashion accommodating the grill cook of that moment. They also had tasty grilled shrimp to compliment the steak in a light garlic glaze. Since the non smoking ordinance was passed in Martinsville this year by the county, disgruntled businesses have been pulling up the tent stakes and heading for greener pastures, but there are several Martinsville steak restaurants where ordinance or no, they have decided to tough it out and continue to sell to the Martinsville customers the beef they desire.
The smoking ordinance is a special law in the town of Martinsville that requires all restaurants in which children are welcomed to outlaw smoking in any establishment (other than a bar) where food is being served. This has caused a heap of praise from health conscious individuals but a lot of anger and uproar in our community from smokers and restaurants. Many eating establishments who were in opposition to the ordinance note that smokers make up a great portion of those they served on a daily basis. The ordinance has therefore caused many restaurants to close in frustration and put into motion a battle waged vehemently between the city and a small family diner, Charlie's. But in the quest to put family food on the table, the ordinance is not slowing several of Martinsville Indiana's steakhouses down.
Bynum's Steakhouse has been around since before Super Wal-Mart came to the area. The waitresses are sometimes the best you'll find, and other times (usually the younger ones) prefer to chat with peers rather than check your bread and drinks. This is not great behavior for a place of such high standards, but the classic steakhouse atmosphere makes Bynum's a great sit-down dinner in spite of the occasional apathy. The steaks are wonderful and well cut, and the cooks are talented. If you want some frilly entree, this is not the best place for you, as this is truly a meat and potatoes kind of establishment, where steak is king. It is located at 25 Sunnyside Drive, Martinsville IN (765) 342-4398. It is kind of pricy.
Damon's Grill is a great place to take the family for a relaxing dinner. The menu is nice, and the fact the business is a franchise means you can find out more about it online and stay in contact with those in charge at your own convenience. Martinsville Damon's Grill is located in the Wal-Mart Super Center plaza. There are over 100 Damon's Grills in the world, but each one has an atmosphere perfect for the town it served. Damon's is definitely interested in Martinsville as a whole, investing and sponsoring many local events.
Damon's Grill had humble roots in Columbus Ohio. Established in 1979, it is a delightful restaurant with plenty of focus on community. I noticed when we first entered that Damon's had Martinsville memorabilia on the walls, respectfully displaying the appreciation to be in our town. The waitresses when we ate were all rail thin and looked kind of made-up. It kind of cheapened the place in a way, since the gals had a definite lack of reality. But the food made up for the Barbie population. Damon's does have a bar for sports and offers trivia for people who dine there. The appetizers are tasty and portions are generous. If you're not in the mood for steak, they have mouthwatering barbecued ribs that are amazing in both marinated and sauced or dry rub cooked.
Chili's is a great steak restaurant in Martinsville. They have excellent entrees, a variety of ways to order steak, and fantastic appetizers. Their cheesecake was a little bit disappointing. Also located in Martinsville's Super Wal-Mart plaza (765) 349-8227 at 620 Birk Road, Martinsville, IN 46151, Chili's offers a refreshing menu that is extremely family friendly, which for me is a definite feather in Chili's cap. The wait staff is attentive and fun. The menu is great, and they cook my steak perfectly.
The children's menu is well thought out with little ones in mind, and the waitress doesn't seem phased by a rowdy six year old. Chili's is a great atmosphere, and they even offer Chili's to go for people who want to take some of Chili's famous Babyback ribs home. Martinsville Chili's is very clean and decorated quite tastefully. If you do not want steak, they have quite a nice menu offering alternatives including some that won't make me wreck my diet.
If you want more nightlife, there are plenty of bars and pubs which also can cook a mean steak, but for family dining in Martinsville, the top steak restaurants are Chili's, Bynum's, and Damon's. Thinking about their menu makes my mouth literally water.
