Personally, I find it best to switch around with products, including my shampoos and conditioners. Don't ever use the same thing over and over as different products will give you different results over time. I also recommend using a clarifying shampoo once every week or two to clean the overload of product residue that has built up on your hair. My favorite is Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo which I use a couple times a month and I love the results. You should be able to find it at any local drugstore or supermarket. This certainly helps to bring back the curls once the residue is washed away. I always follow that up with Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask and then use more inexpensive shampoos and conditioners in between.
Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse will really help give your hair added volume with a very pleasant lavender scent. This product can be found at Walgreens and CVS drug stores for under $5. I have found a lot of products that don't smell that nice, but you won't have that problem with this product. I don't normally like putting mousse on my hair, but will make an exception for this product. It smells great and gives my curls that extra added boost they need, yet keeps the frizz away when it's really hot and humid outside. My extra secret when I use a more drying product, such as mousse or hairspray, is to rub a small amount of Chi Silk Infusion in between my hands and fluff up my curls while distributing it all over. It is a great product to smooth out the flyaways and helps to keep my curls bouncy all day. You can order it online at a reasonable price of $14.99 for a 2oz bottle at folica.com or find it at a few other places. I usually get a 12oz bottle at my hair salon for $40. I have seen it at Publix for $19 for the 2oz bottle. I realize it's not the cheapest product on the market, but it will last a long time as you only need a small amount.
Another product I really like, especially living in Florida, is John Frieda Frizz Ease Hair Serum. This is also available at most drug stores and supermarkets for around $10. No, this is not exactly a curling product, but I find it works great with naturally curly hair. Use about a nickel size amount and rub between your hands and tousle it throughout your hair. This alway helps to kink up my curls and also eliminate the frizz, even when the humidity is unbearable outside.
Last but not least is one of my all time favorite products for curly hair. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find it at a retail location for the last 20 plus years, but you can still purchase it on line. Worlds of Curls is a product you may find at your local drugstore or supermarket in the with the ethnic hair products, but you won't find the exact spray I like. You can however find it at BeautyofNewYork.com for under $5. There are other products at the store you can find such as Soft-Sheen Carson Care Free Curl, which is a good product for boosting and tightening your natural curl, but if you don't mind waiting, get the Worlds of Curls Comb Out Conditioner and Oil Sheen. I don't think you will be disappointed with the volume and clarity of your curls, not to mention the benefit of the oil sheen to keep those luxurious curls smooth and manageable.
