Top Summer Fantasy Novels for Young Adults

Miss Mini
As the school year comes to a close many students will find themselves with a lot of free time on their hands. Summer break is a great time for the teens to catch up on their reading (along with their sleep). For any young adults looking for a good fantasy read then check out my list of the top fantasy novels for summer.

The Pendragon Adventure by DJ MacHale
The Pendragon Adventure is a 10 book series about the adventures of Bobby Pendragon. Everything in Bobby's life is great until he learns that he is a traveler and all of Halla is in trouble unless he can do something about it. Bobby is only a kid when he leaves to travel the different territories with his uncle Press. Their mission is to defeat an evil entity known as St. Dane. This series begins with the book The Merchant of Death and from there the story just keeps getting better and better. This is definitely a fantasy series that any young adult will enjoy.

Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl is a teenage criminal mastermind who is determined to accumulate as much wealth as possible (mostly through shady business deals and unethical means). When Artemis discovers the existence of fairies he plots to exploit them for money. Follow along with Artemis as he dives deeper in this mysterious world and see if this evil genius has a change of heart. The Artemis Fowl series consists of 6 books.

The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer
Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series is one of the best group of books that I have read in a long time. Meyer's characters Edward and Bella are unforgettable and readers will hold their breath as they wait to see what happens to these young lovers. The first book in the series introduces us to all of the vampires and pulls us into a world where fantasies become reality. If you haven't read these 4 books then you definitely need to do so this summer.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
What happens when you die? Where do you go and who will you meet? When the main character Eddie dies in a horrific accident he goes to heaven and winds up meeting five people from his life who had a major impact on his life (even though he didn't always know it). The people that Eddie meets help him to transition to a better place and learn to forgive the people who he believes have wronged him (like his father). This book is an extremely wonderful book that will have tears streaming from your eyes and have you reflecting on your own life.

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
The Hobbit is the pre-quel to Tolkien's hit trilogy, Lord of the Rings. See how it all began as you follow along with Bilbo Baggins and how he stumbles upon a mysterious ring, an evil creature named Gollum, dragons, dwarfs, and much more. Tolkien's work is classic fantasy that readers of all ages have come to enjoy. If you haven't come across this book yet then you are definitely missing out and need to pick it up this summer.

Animal Farm by George Orwell
On Manor Farm the animals are tired of the humans pushing them around so the animals revolt and take over the farm. With the pigs in charge and a Utopian society in mind all goes well for a while, until the pigs start bending the rules. This fantasy novel has many political undertones and is often studied in high schools and colleges. Even if you don't take the time to understand all of the symbolism it is still a great read by a great author.

Hopefully I have given you more than enough fantasy books to read this summer. If you need more then search some of these great authors Stephen King, Terry Goodkind, Christopher Paolini, and R A Salvatore. Happy reading!
