Everyone's looking for a new place to branch out. Think about the type of articles that you're writing most often. Where would the people that read that content congregate? Where would someone find a group of people that would be interested in that type of content? Go there. Get to know them. They would probably like reading it. If you're writing a lot of content about Hannah Montana, then go to a Hannah Montana forum and work up to posting links to relevant AC articles. Warning: Don't go in there posting links like a madman. Many forum moderators will toss a person like that out on their ear. However, take the time to get to know the people and establish some sort of history with them, then there probably won't be any trouble when the articles are finally unveiled.
2009 New Year's Resolution #2 for AC Writers -Cross link with friends online
If you're like me and have friends with blogs, see if they mind sticking a link to your AC page somewhere in the blog. It is a nice way to reach an audience for very little work. If the friend won't put a link up for "free," then maybe offer to do a guest post on the blog. That allows a person to A) introduce him/herself to a new group of possible subscribers, B) post the AC links freely, and C) help a friend have a day off from blog posting. All it takes is one question to the right person, and that question has the potential to open the door to a new bunch of subscribers.
2009 New Year's Resolution #3 for AC Writers -Use online networks to branch out
I'm a member of Facebook and MySpace. I don't get on them often, but I try to share my Associated Content articles whenever I get the chance. Social networks are a great way to keep in touch with friends and family over long distances. If a friend or acquaintance would be interested in an article on the mating habits of swamp rats, then why not send it to them? Maybe a chance could present itself for you to hook up with the entire online swamp rat mating habits community. Make extending networks virtually a new year's resolution.
2009 New Year's Resolution #4 for AC Writers -Use personal networks to find interested readers
As a corollary to the previous New Year's resolution for 2009, also make use of personal (physical) networks. I work with a lady that enjoys reading my articles, and after receiving my permission (gladly given!), she shared a few links with other people she knew. I have no idea who the people are; however, she knew that they would enjoy the topic. It doesn't hurt to ask hardcore subscribers to pass on anything they think others would be interested in, and it could be a great benefit!
2009 New Year's Resolution #5 for AC Writers -Get 3 new referrals
How about a nice $30 payment from Associated Content? All that is necessary is to get three people to sign up and post five articles of their own. All you've got to do is get them interested. I am working on getting a few people into AC, because I think that A) they probably have stuff that would easily get published B) they deserve the chance to make money on their own work, and C) money, greenbacks, moolah, etc. in my own pocket. Anyone that's been through college recently probably has at least half a dozen papers they had to write for classes, and they could submit those quickly and easily! Make getting new referrals a new year's resolution!
2009 New Year's Resolution #6 for AC Writers -Add 10 new subscribers
With ten new subscribers reading ten articles, that makes one hundred page views. If you're feeling a little more aggressive, go for twenty subscribers or write twenty articles for double the pleasure and double the fun. I haven't concentrated on adding subscribers as much as I should have, but I think that I will start actively working to garner new readers. Remember, those new readers can help like the woman helped me in tip number four above!
2009 New Year's Resolution #7 for AC Writers -Write until hands fall off
Write. If you're looking for more money, then write. If you want to get work out there, then write. If you'd like a sumo wrestler to dress up as a large panda and sit in your lap, then please see a mental health professional (then maybe write about the experience). Writing more is a surefire way to get more money. Whether it is from subscribers getting the links to new articles or someone finding the brand new article about how to recover from Sumo-Panda Syndrome via Google, writing is the best way to get more money and exposure. (Caveat-don't use more writing as a substitute for good writing.) Resolve to write more in the new year.
2009 New Year's Resolution #8 for AC Writers -Get back to the basics
Using Keywords. Search Engine Optimization. Latent Semantic Indexing. For great info on those topics, see Michy's linked articles. These are a few of the tools that can help to increase page views. Whether you're a crusty veteran or a spit-shined newbie, getting back to the basics can help you to re-discover the best methods for writing your articles. Some of you could use a bit of grammar help, as well.
2009 New Year's Resolution #9 for AC Writers -Go beyond the basics
Once you've revisited the main points of writing on the Web, such as keywording, SEO, LSI, etc., it is time to reach higher. Find a kind, courteous, well-performing content producer (go to my CP page to see my favorites) and look through their work. Try to find any tutorials they may have written on how to be successful on AC. If they have not written one, you can message them privately asking for any tips. Maybe if they get enough emails, they will write that tutorial to save them the trouble of answering everyone one-by-one. I found a wonderful CP (thanks again, Lolaness), and I pulled out my flattery-launcher and let her have it. She seemed very happy to give me some advice, although I felt like an idiot after finding out that she had already written about it (which is why I said to check their previous work first!). Check out the AC forums. The people on there can be silly, loopy, and we're not exactly sure what species Barefoot is, but they still have great advice for both new and old CPs.
2009 New Year's Resolution for AC Writers #10-Thank a CM (but do not feed them)
Until AC sets up some sort of tipping system, we're going to have to thank CMs with our words. They work their tails off to get our stuff published, so try to let them know whenever a chance presents itself. I know that I have personally been helped by Brenna and Sam, and I'm sure there are plenty of others that I don't even know about!2009 New Year's Resolution #5 for AC Writers -Get 3 new referrals2009 New Year's Resolution #7 for AC Writers -Write until hands fall off2009 New Year's Resolution #9 for AC Writers -Go beyond the basicsAC has probably published over a million articles as of this time. Thanks, Angel. I hope your ventures with AC go well!
Very good tips! I have started writing more for AC in the last few months and hope to continue to do so. I'm working on all the rest too.
Great read! I especially like #7 and #10 :)
Thanks for the resolutions! I have been making posts on different social networks, and I am certainly open to going through personal forums as well. I do see what you mean about people kicking you out if all you do is just publish links, and this is something to watch out for. Thanks again!
Nice article and tips here. How are referrals done? I don't even know where to begin.
These are great resolutions for AC writers. This article is very helpful and useful.
