Village Creek Bible Camp is a Place Every Family Should Go!

K Jolin
Village Creek Bible Camp and Retreat Center is located in the northeast corner of Iowa. This camp is a hidden treasure that many people do not even know is there. Tucked into the valley, this camp is beautiful inside and out. The staff is there to serve and go out of their way to ensure every camper's needs are met and they all have a great camping experience. There are so many fun activities and in this article I will list my top ten favorite!

1. The Ropes Challenge Course is one you must visit! A giant tree climb, rope swing, Burma bridge, and rock repel are just some of the events. This challenge course is on top of a high ridge that boasts of amazing views. The hike is challenging just to get there! Once you are on the top of the hill, you can view the valleys in each direction.

2. New to VCBC in 2005 is the paint ball course. Just above the lake is a fabulous wooded paint ball course. You don't need to bring anything, they have it all. Padded gear, the guns and paint balls are all included in the fee to play the course. Kids and adults have enjoyed this paint ball course for hours upon hours.

3. Visit the Village Creek Stable for some awesome horseback rides. The arena is a great place to start with riding lessons given each day. Once you feel comfortable on horseback, you can enjoy a beautiful trail ride. The horse trails curve through the woods and offer some fabulous nature views. There is even a trail for experienced riders that will take you to the top of the ridge. The horses are all very well behaved and ready to take you on an awesome ride!

4. One more of my favorite activities is tubing down Village Creek. The slow current will take you on a relaxing ride through the valley. Tubes are provided and life jackets are available as well. Just be sure to grab an old pair of shoes so you can do a little creek stomping as well!

5. Center Lake is located just above the camp, along a hillside. This man-made lake is bursting with activities. There is a swimming section that has shallow and deep ends. The dock has several diving platforms as well as a gigantic blob jumping platform. You can also canoe throughout the lake and fish from the shore. If you feel like relaxing, feel free to sunbath on the beach. This lake will have your whole family longing to come back the next day!

6. Another favorite event of mine is trail breakfast. You can choose to take the hay ride to the wooded trail spot, or ride up on horseback. Leaving early in the morning, you will see the mist rising from the lake and enjoy the cool, crisp air of morning time. The breakfast is so delicious as it is prepared just for you in the woods. This is an event you won't want to miss on your stay at Village Creek Bible Camp.

7. Just beyond the lake is the 800 feet long zip line! The zip line will send you flying over the valley and give you a rush of adrenaline. You will first have to climb a small tree, then take a leap off the platform to start your flight through the valley! This is often an experience that will never be forgotten!

8. The Activity Center is located at the base of camp and holds a full size gymnasium and a game room full of fun. You can play basket ball, volleyball, floor hockey, pool, ping-pong, and even air hockey. There are also several board games scattered throughout the building for your convenience. The Canteen is also located in this building and will fill your tummy with goodies!

9. The giant trampoline jump is another fun-filled activity. Children love this activity as they feel as though they are flying through the air. Once you are harnessed and attached to the bungees you can jump and jump to see how high you can get. If you feel really energetic you can even try to see how many flips you can do in a row.

10. I love to take a canoe trip down an area river. These canoe trips are generally about 3 hours long and you will canoe down a small river and enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Be sure to take your camera for memories are sure to be made while on these canoe trips!

All in all, Village Creek Bible Camp is one place that you will leave feeling refreshed and anticipating your next stop there. Whether you come for a week or a weekend you will want to return. If all these fun activities don't leave you longing for more, the atmosphere, food and staff with make a lasting impression on your life.
