Top Ten Articles About San Francisco on AC in 2006

May Monten
These are some of the best articles about San Francisco that were published on Associated Content during 2006. I say "some" because there were more good articles than I could fit into a top ten list.

I've limited the picks to one per each author in order to include more people on the list. Also, I didn't include any of my own articles, because that would have just been weird.

So starting with #10 and building up to #1, here we go:

10. Hitched!: A Book About Gay Weddings in San Francisco: Civil Disobedience Leads to Joy by Elizabeth Allen. A review of a book that commemorates a historic San Francisco event, bringing it to life for those who weren't there.

9. Adante Hotel: Good Price, Good Location: Staying in Downtown San Francisco Doesn't Have to Cost an Arm and a Leg by Jennifer Hammitt. This description of a positive experience in a budget hotel should be useful to travelers, because hotel rooms can be very expensive here!

8. Outer Sunset in San Francisco for the Health Conscious by Tantra Bensko. A guide to places for healthy eating, running, and walking in this neighborhood near the beach. I would just add that the Sunset is one of the neighborhoods with the best air quality in the city.

7. Worst Date Ever by M. M. Lyons The title says it all. What makes this funny story a San Francisco story is the disaster that takes place right in the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge.

6, The Top Sushi Spots in San Francisco: A Raw Account by JP. Because you can never have too much sushi.

5. San Francisco Transit Secrets by Penelope Returns. I thought I knew a lot about S.F. transit, but I didn't know, until I read this article, that SamTrans ran all night to the airport. I also enjoyed reading about Penelope's experiences with Transit511.org, which I have also found can be useful but quirky, sometimes coming up with strange routes, and I second her advice to add in extra time and to consult a map.

4. Cycling in San Francisco: How to Survive the Mean Streets of the City on Your Bike: Tips for Urban Cycling Adventure! by Rocco Pendola. Read how the author learned not to get punched in the face (!) and other tips from an avid urban cycler. Also, check out Rocco's profile page for other good articles about S.F. biking, the Mission, and the best street corners.

3. Buying Guide to California Chocolates: A Sampler Box of Several Great California Chocolatiers and Chocolate Factories by Willow Polson. This isn't strictly a San Francisco article, as it covers all of California, but I had to put it in my list because it is about chocolate, and chocolate always deserves to be on any list! Also, many of the companies the author describes are, in fact, in San Francisco. There are lots of great details and information in this well-researched article.

2. Taking a Walk With Your Baby in Crissy Field in San Francisco: A Great Walk for New Parents - Moms or Dads by Shannon Kuehnel. This is a well-written guide to taking a walk in one of the city's most beautiful places, Crissy Field. It has lots of good details, including tips on how to get yourself and your baby ready. I like the way the author conveys the joy of a new parent going on her or his first excursion with a new baby. I also recommend Shannon's other articles on taking a walk with a baby in Golden Gate Park; top cooking schools in S.F.; and picking strawberries in the S.F. Bay Area.

1. The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in San Francisco by Thy Pham. This useful and well-written guide gives great descriptions of Vietnamese restaurants all over the city, from a sandwich shop in the Tenderloin where you can get a delicious Vietnamese sandwich for $2 to the elegant Slanted Door in the Ferry Building. I'm getting hungry!
