Post a CommentKey West's historic 1847 Cemetery is located in the "dead" center of Old Town, bounded by Angela, Margaret, Passover Lane (appropriately named), Frances and Olivia. Moved to higher ground after the 1847 hurricane disinterred bodies from the first burial ground near the Southernmost Point, the whitewashed above-ground tombs and statues are fascinating. A stroll through this historic graveyard can tell as much about Key West's quirky character as any history lesson.

A great site with excellent info. I have been visiting the Florida Keys since the 90's, and Key West is my favorite place to visit. Hands down. All the best.

I live near Fort Myers and have been to Key West only a few times. Nice article. I have never been on the boardwalk though. Where is that? Also, I know you can take tours on boats and snorkel, but isn't there a place there to snorkel w/o getting on a tour boat.
I'm in Key West now. To see pictures, go to my article on Associated Content or to www.weeklywilson.com. We just checked in to Parrot Key. This is a fantastic hotel/condo with 3 floors (and 3 bedrooms) and 3 and 1/2 bathrooms, a full kitchen (brand new, with granite countertops. We even have the ability to TVO things on our flat screen TV in the main living room (pictures on www.weeklywilson.com of interior). All we asked for was a bedroom that had a door on it (i.e., a separate bedroom situation, since I go to bed late and the spouse is an early riser) and now we have an entire house, set in foliage with 4 pools. Amazing! The price? About what it costs to stay in a downtown Chicago hotel, or $300. (We could have gotten by for $200 with a smaller place, but there was no separate bedroom, so we ended up with the biggest room ever! Looking forward to the Hemingway House and the Cemetery, for sure. And the Duval Crawl and Mallory Square.
Down in the bahamian village there is a restaurant called Blue Moon Cafe that has an outdoor garden where you can eat, drink and swing from a tree swing. Also, there are roosters and chickens milling about for a truly Caribbean feeling. Don't miss visiting this terrific spot, the food is terrific as well.
I like the Key West Sandal Factory, however they closed, and you can only order on line.
Was wondering about your sources, would like to check out a few more in depth.
Sounds fun, I want to go now. lol
Makes me want to go there.
I have always wanted to visit the Hemingway Museum ever since I heard about the cats.
