1. Oreos
You don't want to take too much real chocolate on a plane, lest it melt or make a mess all over your bags. But Oreos are an excellent option, partially because they're prone to staying together thanks to their cream filling.
2. Trail Mix
Pack a snack baggie filled with peanuts, M&M's, raisins, granola chunks, pretzel sticks and anything else you feel like adding to the mix. Avoid plain chocolate chips unless you want to reach in and get all sticky.
3. Chex Mix
You can make your own Chex mix recipe with Chex cereal, or you can purchase different snack flavors from your local grocery store or Target. Both of these are typically cheaper than the fare provided at the airport.
4. Chips Ahoy Cookies
We like to eat the ones that come in miniature sizes, but these types of prepackaged cookies are great for snacking on a flight. They typically flake and crumb less than homemade cookies, even if they aren't quite as good.
5. Rice Krispies
Homemade or prepackaged Rice Krispie bars are lightweight, take up little storage and can be packaged in a baggie or container with no difficulty. And they're surprisingly not as sticky as other marshmallow snacks.
6. Teddy Grahams
If you're craving more chocolate on your trip, chocolate Teddy Grahams do the trick. Otherwise, there's also honey and cinnamon flavors.
7. Beef Jerky
Aside from the potentially offensive breath you might have after eating them, beef jerky is a salty, tasty snack that counters almost any sweet snack you bring along. But think about taking some breath mints along just in case.
8. Cheese Crackers
Ritz crackers and cheese sandwich crackers both go over quite well on a plane. If you get these in the cylindrical snack size containers, you can eat as many as you need and save the rest for later. And best of all, they come in a crush-proof container!
9. Licorice Sticks
Nothing's better than a stack of strawberry or cherry licorice sticks on a flight. These come in bite-size pieces as well as miniature strips, medium strips and long strips. Pick the size and flavor that best suits your tastes and needs and tuck some in your carry-on luggage.
10. Pizza Combos
Although these might be considered another breath killer, they're awesome tasting and tend to fill you up at the same time. They're also not so spicy that you'll be guzzling liquid during the whole flight and need the latrine during turbulence. They come in several varieties and bag sizes, so grab one from your local gas station and hit the tarmac.
It's always a good idea to pack wintergreens, tic-tacs, breath mints, ice breakers or chewing gum on a flight. Be courteous to your fellow passengers and pop one of these in after any snack, regardless of its spice content.
