Top Ten Christmas Movies of All Time

Cheryl Engelke
Christmas is my favorite time of year. One of the best things about it is watching all of my favorite Christmas movies all over again. Grab the popcorn and some hot chocolate, its movie time with my Top Ten Christmas movies of all time.

10. ThePolar Express

While The Polar Express is a reasonably new Christmas movie, it still brings out the inescapable truth that all of us eventually leave behind our faith in childish things. It reminds us of the joy and simplicity of believing in a little magic. And which of us can't use a little magic these days? http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2954167065/

9. It's a Wonderful Life

Always a classic, It's a Wonderful Life portrays an angel showing a compassionate yet disillusioned business man what it would be like if he had never existed. It's a wonderfully endearing classic. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1101988121/

8. White Christmas (Irving Berlin)

I have to admit I am a sucker for classics. White Christmas stars Bing Crosby as one of two ex-GIs form a popular song and dance team. They fall in love with a sister act and work together to save a former commander's Vermont Inn. This movie has the absolute best version of the song "White Christmas" at the end. I love it! http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2954167065/

7. A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is possibly one of the most replayed movie during the Christmas season. It takes you back to your childhood. It's an incredibly funny reminder of how things really are in life. And don't forget, "You'll shoot your eye out!" and the Triple Dog Dare. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3470328089/

6. A Muppet Christmas Carol

As I said, I am a sucker for the classics and you can't get anymore classic than a Christmas Carol with a Muppet twist. In this delightfully not quite correct version of the classic Dickens novel, the Muppets give their version of the story. And God Bless Mr. Scrooge!

5. Elf

Another newer Christmas tale to add to my list is Elf. Buddy the Elf leaves the North Pole to find his human father in New York City. Elf is a great reminder of family and faith and good old Christmas spirit.

4. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated original)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is always one movie I wait around to watch every year. The mean old Grinch decides to steal Christmas from the Whos down in Whoville. Much to his surprise, he realizes that Christmas isn't about the presents and the trees. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi1636827417/

3. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

NL Christmas Vacation is a classic in its own rite. The Griswold family plans to stay home for Christmas in the hopes of a quiet old fashioned Christmas. Until the family shows up. In the traditional Griswold ways, everything is a disaster. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3522429721/

2. Miracle on 34th Street

In Miracle on 34th Street, a single mom raising a very adult child meets the real Santa Claus. Torn between believing in love and miracles again and the practical ways she has schooled herself. When Santa is institutionalized, a young lawyer decides to defend him proving he is the real deal. Again, another classic. http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi2803367961/

A Charlie Brown Christmas

My favorite Christmas movie is a Charlie Brown Christmas. Tired of the commercialism of the Christmas Season, Charlie Brown sets out to see what Christmas is really all about, the birth of Christ.

Everyone has their favorite Christmas movies, I hope you enjoy mine! Remember to take pleasure in the simpler things, don't forget the reason for the season and above all, believe in a little magic or miracles.

Merry Christmas to All!
