Top Ten Couples on Comedy Shows

A List of the Best Comedic Couples

Sabrina Ricci
Everyone loves comedy, right? Well here are my top ten comedy show couples.

10. Fred and Ethel Mertz, I Love Lucy

The loveable neighbors and landlords on this classic show had great chemistry. They have funny interactions, which are even more hilarious when you know that Vivian Vance (Ethel) hated William Frawley (Fred) in real life. She thought he was too stubborn and too old to play her husband, but she also managed to pull off some cute, romantic scenes in the series.

9. Darrin and Samantha Stephens, Bewitched

Bewitched is one of my favorite shows (I really like sitcoms, particularly ones involving magic). Samantha and Darrin have their rocky moments on the show, and although at times Darrin may seem to be asserting too much control over Samantha, she always stands up for herself in the end. This leads to the couple having a pretty balanced relationship.

8. Cliff and Clair Huxtable, The Cosby Show

Clair is a very powerful and well-respected woman, which is one reason I like her. And, neither she nor Cliff ever let anyone take advantage of them. This couple always bans together when it comes to raising their children, and oftentimes they handle their kids' problems in humorous ways.

7. Niles Crane and Daphne Moon, Frasier

Niles and Daphne have one of those relationships that takes a long time to form. Although they are a happy couple once they are together, it is much more fun to watch the process. Niles's nervousness when it comes to interacting with Daphne often leads to comical situations.

6. Chandler Bing and Monica Geller, Friends

I know, this isn't the typical couple people visualize when they think of Friends. But that makes them more interesting, doesn't it? They are an example of a couple who managed to start a relationship after years of being friends, which is not always an easy thing to do. We usually hear of guys getting stuck in "friendville" so it's nice to see that isn't always the case.

5. Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin, How I Met Your Mother

Lily wears the pants in this relationship, which makes this couple's dynamic entertaining to watch. They are definitely a more modern couple than other couples on this list, and they participate in a lot of crazy and funny events together in the show.

4. Hank Moody and Karen van der Beek, Californication

Hank Moody is a womanizer who tries his best to prove his worth to Karen, his on-and-off girlfriend and mother of his child. The couple have a lot of problems they need to work out, but it is touching to see how much Hank clearly cares about Karen.

3. Red and Kitty Forman, That 70's Show

The way Red and Kitty interact is hilarious. They have a fairly balanced relationship, since they often trade "who wears the pants." I also really enjoy how they interact with the kids on the show, and how throughout the series they get more wild and loose. But no matter what, they always show how much they care about each other.

2. Michael Scott and Holly Flax, The Office

One reason I enjoyed this couple so much was because I had a couple of friends who interacted in that same, slightly awkward way while they were getting to know each other-and it was really cute! And although Michael and Holly weren't together that long, I still think they are a good fit, and maybe later in the series they will pick up where they left off.

1. Ricky and Lucy Ricardo, I Love Lucy

Of course this would be the number one couple-this is the greatest show ever! (Well, maybe not greatest, but certainly my favorite). The reason they may be the best couple is that they were actually a couple in real life, which makes all the sentimental moments seem even more romantic. Although they divorced at the very end of the series-rumor has it that Lucy was crying during a scene in the last episode where Ricky was singing-the couple still had some very obvious loving moments during the show. Also, whenever Desi Arnaz (Ricky) wasn't in the scene, you can hear his distinct laugh in the background as he watched Lucy's antics on stage. Very supportive.
