Top Ten DJ Hero Song Mixes

Join the ranks of Daft Punk and DJ Shadow in Nintendo Wii's DJ Hero, a single player video game with a life size turntable and seemingly endless song mixes. Some of the songs are fun, but others are drop-dead awesome. Of course, you'll have to work your way through each song pack to earn the right to play some of these mixes, but once you do, you'll be hooked. Here's the ten best DJ Hero songs for Nintendo Wii.

10. Jackson 5 "I Want You Back" meets Third Eye Blind "Semi-Charmed Life"

I think I've loved "Semi-Charmed Life" since the day I first heard it on the radio. As perhaps one of Third Eye Blind's most recognized (and most enjoyable) songs, it makes sense to include it in a DJ Hero setlist. Although Jackson 5 isn't the first band I'd place it with, this song is the more overpowering of the two and thus fun to hear and play - something I can't say for every song on DJ Hero.

9. Eminem "My Name Is" meets Beck "Loser"

Even if you're not a fan of the whitest rapper ever born, you'll "crack a smile" (not a bottle) whenever this song comes on the set. Though some might cry foul on a pairing with the ever-revered Beck, I think both songs do each other justice on the game. Though you will get the tail end of "My Name Is" stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

8. Bobby Blue Bland "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City" meets 2Pac "How Do You Want It"

It's not as bad as it sounds. The funky "Ain't No Love" hits 2Pac's rap single and you don't know what to think at first. But it slowly grows on you and before you know it, you're searching throughout each song pack to find this hit just so you can add it to your playlist.

7. Cypress Hill "Insane in the Brain" meets Classics IV "Spooky"

One of these is hands down better than the other, (need I actually mention which?) but it's worth playing the song just to hear it. "Spooky" is one of those classics that never really grows old, and Cypress Hill's mix puts a modern touch on it for you little munchkins who ain't got no respect for the classics.

6. Rihanna "Disturbia" meets The Killers "Somebody Told Me"

Both of these are awesome hits in their own right, but mash them together and you've got just the right amount of disturbing gossip. I could use even more of The Killers in the song and just a little less Rihanna, but it's still one of my favorites on the DJ Hero song pack.

5. Foreigner "Jukebox Hero" meets DJ Z-Trip feat. Murs "DJ Hero"

Your DJ Hero becomes a Jukebox Hero with any mix with Foreigner. There's several guitar and DJ remixes that pair this awesome hit with "DJ Hero" by DJ Z-Trip featuring Murs. This is one of my particular favorites because it doesn't take a lot of crossfading, which is particularly difficult for some reason.

4. Queen "Another One Bites the Dust" meets Beastie Boys "Brass Monkey"

What could be better than double attitude - from both rock and rap groups? "Another One Bites the Dust" tempers the zippy rap beats of "Brass Monkey," gives your fingers a workout and pumps your heart rate in the meantime.

3. Beastie Boys "Intergalactic" meets Blondie "Rapture"

It's not that this mix is particularly noteworthy. I just enjoy mimicking the Beastie Boys chorus of "In-terr-ga-LACK-tick" whenever it pops into the mix - which is just about every five seconds. I counted.

2. 50 Cent "Disco Inferno" meets David Bowie "Let's Dance"

This one's just plain fun, and since I'm not a fan of listening to "Disco Inferno" all by itself, David Bowie's hit makes the mix palatable - almost likeable. This one fits well with the DJ queues you're supposed to hit as they come onscreen, so you can feel the groove in this one and score some high pointers.

1. The Aranbee Pop Orchestra "Bittersweet Symphony" meets 2Pac "All Eyez On Me"

I almost don't care what song they put with "Bittersweet Symphony" - it always comes out sounding like a triumphant entry and tugs on your heartstrings. Of course, the fact that 2Pac is singing "All eyes on me" throughout the mix helps reiterate that theme. If you had to get one of the mixes stuck in your head for the rest of the day, this is the one I'd pick.
