Top Ten New Edition Side Project Songs

Top Ten Songs by New Edtion Solo and Side Projects

Tim Hawver
New Edition has been one of the most influential groups in R&B for the last twenty years. Not only have they had hits as a group, but their solo and side projects have spawned many major hits as well. It is hard to come up with another R&B group that has enjoyed as much solo success.

New Edition members Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, and Johnny Gill have all had solo hits. Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, and Ronnie Devoe enjoyed success as the trio Bell Biv Devoe. Their solo careers began in the eighties and stayed strong all the way through the nineties. Although they haven't enjoyed much success past the nineties, much of their material is still enjoyed by R&B fans today.

Here are the top ten New Edition side project songs:

10. 'My Body' by LSG. New Edition alum, Johnny Gill teamed up with R&B stars Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form LSG. Although the trio's music was often hit and miss, 'My Body' is a phenomenal R&B song. Johnny Gill shines in this suggestive ballad.

9. 'Good Enough' by Bobby Brown. From his album 'Bobby,' 'Good Enough' is a wonderful R&B ballad by Bobby Brown. It was a top ten hit in 1992.

8. 'Maybe' by Johnny Gill. 'Maybe' is a hidden gem on Johnny's 1996 album 'Let's Get the Mood Right.' Gill's powerful voice carries this song.

7. 'My Prerogative' by Bobby Brown. A song that is truly reflective of Bobby Brown's attitude, 'My Prerogative' was a number one hit in 1988 and put Brown's solo career into overdrive.

6. 'My, My, My' by Johnny Gill. 'My, My, My' is among the best ballads put out by New Edition or any of their members. Released in 1990, it set the tone for many of the decade's R&B ballads.

5. 'Poison' by Bell Biv Devoe. 'Poison' was a precursor to the 'New Jack Swing' style of R&B that would become so popular in the early nineties. To this day, 'Poison' can be heard in night clubs.

4. 'Sensitivity' by Ralph Tresvant. 'Sensitivity' is a mid-tempo R&B classic, it hit the top ten in 1990.

3. 'Rub You the Right Way' by Johnny Gill. Johnny Gill's biggest hit came with 1990's 'Rub You the Right Way.' It is an up-tempo dance classic that was a top ten smash in the United States.

2. 'Rock Wit'cha' by Bobby Brown. 'Rock Wit'cha' is an R&B classic. It was included on Bobby Brown's seven-million selling 'Don't Be Cruel' album.

1. 'Don't Be Cruel' by Bobby Brown. The title track from Bobby Brown's classic 1998 album reached the top ten and got the sales rolling. 'Don't Be Cruel' would go on to be one of the best selling R&B albums of the decade. Although Brown has been away for some time, songs like this prove he was once on top of the R&B game.

#9 to #4 partially blocked by an ad. Annoying, do not know why AC does this. "sources" take the time to write, but AC is not letting me read many articles due to this new bad habit of covering article text with ads.
