The Best Workouts to Get You into Shape

10 Minute Solution: Pilates

I'm a huge fan of the 10 Minute Solution series of exercise DVDs. As a busy mom, I don't always have time for a full workout and it's easy to squeeze one of these quick workouts into my schedule. Each DVD consists of five 10-minute workouts so you can do a single workout, mix and match a couple, or do the entire DVD at one time. One of my favorites of the series is 10 Minute Solution: Pilates. Workouts include Pilates for Abs, Pilates for Buns & Thighs, Sculpting Pilates, Pilates Burn and Pilates for Flexibility. In just a couple weeks of doing this DVD three times a week, I could already see more definition in my body, as well as greater flexibility. On really hectic days where I need help winding down, I turn to the Pilates for Flexibility section. It never fails to relax me. I purchased my DVD at Walmart, but I've saw them in several other stores as well. Netflix has this one available to instantly watch if you want to check it out before you buy.

Tae Bo

If you're looking for a high energy workout that works your whole body and leaves you feeling strong and powerful, you can't go wrong with Tae Bo. If you're out of shape or new to exercising, this exercise DVD series can seem quite difficult. However, if you're persistent and keep trying it, it does get easier with time. The results are worth it though. Fat seems to just melt away and I feel stronger than ever. If you're not familiar with Tae Bo, I recommend going through the instructional and basic DVDs before moving on to the more advanced ones. If you're looking for the older workouts, they can be found used on eBay and Amazon. The newer workouts are available in stores and for rent on Netflix.

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred

If you've ever watched The Biggest Loser and wished you had Jillian Michaels to help whip you into shape, this is the exercise DVD for you. This is one of the more intense workouts I've found, especially considering at 20 minutes, it's shorter than a lot of others. You can choose from three intensity levels. Even if you're in decent shape, it's a good idea to start with Level 1. I'm not new to exercise, but this was a challenge for me. This one is available is most places fitness DVDs are sold and for rent on Netflix.

Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds

When I need a break from high-intensity workouts, I turn to Leslie Sansone and Walk Away The Pounds. If you're looking for a low-impact workout or just easing into getting fit, this is the perfect exercise DVD for you. There are two walks to choose from, a Get Up and Get Started 1 mile walk and a 2 mile Calorie Burn Walk. You can usually find this one at Walmart.

Bellydance Rhythms Workout

If you're looking for something a bit different in your exercise program, you'll love the Bellydance Rhythms Workout DVD. It offers two levels, beginner and intermediate. Step by step instruction teaches you the moves. I found mine on Amazon.

Dr. Amy's Pole Workout Volume 1

Do you want to get in shape and add a little spice to your relationship? Dr. Amy's Pole Workout is an exercise DVD that will do the trick. Step by step instructions with a view from all angles ensures you have the moves down. I like that this DVD is good for beginners and intermediates. Volume 2 is also good. This is another Amazon find.

The Firm Series

I'd be hard-pressed to pick just one DVD in this series. They're all great. If you want to burn calories and sculpt your body, you can't go wrong with The Firm. This can be picked up most places exercise DVDs are found. It's also available on Netflix.

Jari Love's Get Ripped

If you want to focus more on sculpting than fat-burning, this is a good choice for you. At just under an hour, this is one of the longer sculpting DVDs I've found. Rather than work on just one muscle group as many DVDs do, this one is a full-body sculpt. You will need some dumbbells and a bench. You can find this one on Netflix and wherever you purchase your workout DVDs.

Dance Off The Inches: Hip Hop Party

This exercise DVD is so fun you don't even feel like you're exercising. I love that there's a separate chapter that teaches the steps in half-time. I've had trouble before with dance workouts that either breeze through the instructions or skip them altogether. I tend to be a bit of a klutz so it was nice to be able to work on the steps and then go to the actual workout. Find this one at Amazon and Netflix.

Crunch Yoga Body Sculpt

Crunch Yoga Body Sculpt is one of my exercise DVDs that helps me relax. It's great for beginners and has someone demonstrating modifications if you have trouble with a certain exercise. Check Netflix and Amazon to find this DVD.
