*Michael Jackson - Thriller
This is my number one favorite song to play on Halloween. Michael Jackson is the king of pop, and he developed a great dance to go with this song. The dance that is played during Thriller is fun to do and can even appear a little frightening if done right!
*Talking Heads - Psycho Killer
This song is incredibly scary, as it concerns the inner thoughts of a serial killer. And how can you stay calm after hearing a New Wave beat like that?
*OutKast - Dracula's Wedding
I like this song because the lyrics are scary, but the true meaning of the song has to do with finding out about another person you are in a relationship with. In the song, the singer is the Dracula, which makes the song extremely interesting.
*Sonic Youth - Halloween
This song is frightening, as the singer is talking in an almost perverse way as if he were a Devil. The lyrics are a little twisted, and there is profanity, but it adds to the overall gothic-sexual feel to the song. The whispery voice adds to the Halloween effect.
*Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
This song has a worrisome tone to it, because I believe that the lyrics have to do with suicide and people being afraid of death. To hear someone sing about death in a way that is inviting is disturbing, and part of Halloween is disturbing images and thoughts.
*Halloween - Dave Matthews Band
This song is awesome in that it is another relationship type song disguised in a Halloween format. The singer screams of shadows, nightmares, and loneliness.
*Halloween - Matt Pond, PA
This Halloween song is introspective in that it is yet another song that has a disguised meaning. The song has to do with people hiding behind masks, and hiding their true selves. And as we all know, Halloween presents itself with many who are dressed up in costumes, and they hide who they really are.
*Halloweenhead - Ryan Adams
This song sings about candy bags, costume shops, and black cats. Listening to it really puts me in the mood for trick or treating...or at least passing out candy. It sets the mood of the night.
*Monster Ballads - Josh Ritter
This is an awesome song that is a great example of an allusion. The song itself is not scary, but it has an eerie tone to it that fits greatly with the solemn lyrics.
*Paranoid - Black Sabbath
This creepy song is simply about a paranoid person, and it stirs up images in your mind about schizophrenia.
As you can see, my choices of Halloween songs are not too common, but to me they are the ones that stir up the most memories and feelings that are related to Halloween.
