While many movies and television programs try to realistically recreate the high school experience - they often create a fictional high school to avoid ay issues with rights and releases. Some, like Springfield High School from The Simpsons, might share the name of a real high school, but for all practical purposes, these high schools are only in movies.
These are the top ten fictional high schools from movies and television.
10. West Beverly High School - Beverly Hills 90210
Let's get one thing straight - no one in my high school looked like that. But as fictional high schools go, West Beverly High seemed like a good place to get an education in areas not normally covered in high school.
9. Shermer High School - The Breakfast Club
Okay, now I haven't seen the whole school - but the media center sure is nice. Any school where the principal cares enough about his students to spend his entire Saturday overseeing a few troublemakers has a dedicated administration.
Also, any school where Judd Nelson is the baddest guy on campus seems like a safe place to get a fictional education.
8. Clark Secondary School - Superbad
This school would rank higher except for their totally unreasonable parking policy. The school does make up for it with a strong Home Ec. department.
7. Westerberg High School - Heathers
Aside from the whole suicide fad that happened when that creepy Jack Nicholson looking guy transferred in, Westerberg High could be any high school named after a singer in a band called The Replacements. Westerberg High can be a bit cliquish - unless, of course, your name is Heather.
6. Hill Valley High School - Back to the Future
Despite the fact that Hill Valley High School has been around for a while, it's still a strong school that cracks down hard on slackers. Known more for its dances and social activities rather than its academics - Hill Valley High School has a proud tradition of letting anyone attend, even mid-year transfer students from the future with no parents to sign paperwork.
5. East High - High School Musical
Any school with a scholastic decathlon, Einsteinettes, and a computer system hooked up to the basketball scoreboard can't be all bad. If the school could somehow reconcile the differences between its drama and athletic departments, East High would be the premiere school in New Mexico.
4. Midtown High School - Spiderman
Peter Parker's alma mater is known for its strong science department(one of the few that actually goes on field trips). Except for that bully, Flash Thompson, the school has a perfect blend of normal and radioactively-enhanced students.
3. Ridgemont High School - Fast Times at Ridgemont High
At a real school, Mr. Hand would be teacher of the year, but at Ridgemont High he's just another stellar member of the faculty. Still, you have to question any school where Jeff Spicoli could get a diploma.
2. Rydell High School - Grease
I got chills. They're multiplyin' - which is about the only thing close to an academic subject that occurs at Rydell High. Still, they have a great drama department. The best thing about Rydell High School is that no one there needs a fake I.D. - it's hard to find any student there that looks under 30.
Venice High School was used to film the fictional Rydell High. To see a satellite close up picture of this high school, click HERE.
1. Lake Forest High School - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
It's hard to believe Ferris would want a day off from this school. With a socially-conscious student body, a hands-on administration and dynamic teachers like Ben Stein, Lake Forest High School is everything you could want in a public school. Imagine in real life if a principal visited a student's home to personally make sure he or she is doing all right. It's almost touching. Too bad real high schools aren't like this.
